Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

Very good "How to", but I would make a couple of suggestions. After using the brillo pad or sand paper, rinse the parts in the hottest water that comes out of your tap. Use rubber gloves and vigorously swish it around in the water for a couple of minutes. Take it out and blot on paper towels to get most of the water off. The heat that the metal absorbed should be enough to finish the drying process. Afterwards, wipe with denatured alcohol, instead of WD-40. WD-40 contains hydrocarbons, which damages marker o-rings, even in minute quantities. Denatured alcohol is safe to use on aluminum and evaporates without leaving any contaminants. Once that is done, reassemble using a good marker oil.

Cheers
