I've never had an issue with water in my Egrip (old dial style).
As far as playing in the rain I have no issue with it as long as it's not cold and raining. I spent many a night while in the Army laying in the freezing rain, and I won't do it anymore unless my life literally depends on it. Hypothermia sucks.
