Here in the San Francisco Bay Area...where oil refineries line the bay...where Chevron Headquarters lives...our 87 Octane Unleaded (lowest octane) has been reported as high as 4.39 USD and Diesel as high as 5.09 USD.

I can't even comment on how all kinds of ridiculous this is. (...where's the 'mad' smiley...)
