Not sure how length has anything to do with that anyhow.
I have never shot barrels less than 14-16" and I never get breaks, seriously.
Seems to me if this is a problem, then you are shooting to hot, have crap paint, or a terrible bolt, or a combination of it all.
Im not sure what you mean by the way I view things, as a lot of the things I was telling in theory was from palmers test, and from things that I have tested myself.
But anyhow, its what ever works for you is what it all boils down to, and there is no dispute in that I suppose. |
I saw it first hand. And it was indeed crap paint. Also players were not forced to use a shorter barrel, they just kept breaking paint all day no matter what marker they were using. Then when the day was done we went over all the possibilities from bore size, type of markers, on down to the last detail we could think of... and what we found out was that the only consistent thing we found with those who did not have trouble with the paint was that they ALL used shorter barrels.
It was not an issue of shooting hot. It was not an issue of having a terrible bolt, or anything other than crappy paint and longer barrels.
We even took a look at where the paint was breaking in the barrels and bingo, it was after the 10" mark.
So was it a theory? Not at all. It was just the way it was.
Now keep in mind that I am not saying that every time you go out with a barrel over 12" you WILL break paint. If that is how it appeared, I apologize. But the fact is that if you do have bad paint the longer you keep it in the barrel the more the chances are it will break there. And in my opinion players should eliminate any potential issues if they can, if it is conducive to their playing style and even visual needs of course.
As for Glen's tests, they are indeed a good place to start. But so are Tom's (Tom Kaye) tests and other independent tests done over the years. I have taken all of these as well as my own personal experience to form my opinions on things, much like you have. We just come up with some slightly different conclusions on some minor issues. I did feel it necessary to post though because I feel both opinions should be read by players.
But you are correct, each player must find what works best for them. And that is what I pointed out in my first post here in this thread.
