Good comments guys.
I too use the Soccer approach to the issue. It is about who ends up with the advantage. If I notice that I am out of bounds I will immediately head back to where I think I went out of bounds at. I will not advance while being out of bounds. I will not shoot while being out of bounds. I will not communicate with my team (aside from telling them I am out of bounds). All my play will STOP until I am back in bounds.
Now if I marked an opponent when being out of bounds I will call myself out and inform a Ref (if one is available) that I was out of bounds and the shot was not legal. If no ref is available I will try to notify the player before they leave the field and hopefully they can just continue to play. Of course that all depends on at what stage of "leaving" they are.
With all that said.... I have never found myself out of bounds. I have fallen and had a leg/foot go out of bounds, or even my entire body, but I don't think that was what was meant by the question.

And in that case I usually grunt and maybe let out an expletive (hey, I fell!

), but I don't call myself out. I pick myself back up and continue playing.
Now if a person was in a tournament, I am sure the rules would be a bit more "enforced". But I don't see how being so tight on rules that if a person falls out of bounds or slips and their foot goes out of bounds in normal play would benefit the game or players. In that case I believe the "spirit" of the rule is what is important.
