Well, I have come to vent.
My father and I go out walleye fishing at night on the shores of Lake Erie in Michigan. We live right on the water. We grab the lantern, put our wadders on, put on the winter gear, (its like 35-40 degrees now) and walk down the shore to out "spot". There is a bice drop off in the water, big rocks, and the walleye love it there. Also there was minows swimming EVERYWHERE tonight. Lake was decently calm, decently clear. Looked like a GREAT night. Previous years we've caught 11 in one night, this year, the walleye are slow. So we were excited for a good night.
My first cast I noticed something was acting up with my reel, my drag was slacking line. When I casted the line came out too easily, same thing when I tugged on the line. But I continued to cast until it really got to bugging me. So i looked at it closer and somethings broken inside and my reel is just wobbling around. Ok, so I walk back home. Put another real on my pole, good to go. Changed lures, put on a new shad rap ive never used. We usually use long A Bombers, but figured, hey, ill try something new.
First cast, SHWOOOM! There goes my brand new lure. The monofilliment line on my reel is old and it breaks really easy, good to find out. Tried tying on another lure, line BROKE whille I was tying it. So told my dad, screw this, Im done.
He told me I could use his pole because his hands were cold. I put on another shad rap. Never used one of these before, so i didnt know how they behaved in the water. Well im realling it in, nice and slow. Well these things sort of "wiggle" lower and lower as you real in. So not knowing that, i ended up snagging it and breaking the line.
SOOOO to recap, broke a real, lost 2 brand new lures, and wasted about 2 hours of my life in the cold walking down the shore.
Now only if I would have slipped and fell in. That would have made my night perfect.
Rant is over. Hope you enjoyed my screwed up night.
