Newer A5 right side receiver??

I took my friends A5 apart yesterday to fix it / tune up, and I noticed the right side receiver has a big black o ring laid flat on the inside where the valve would go. Above that was a small flat head bolt.

Is this a newer design? I know that on both of my own A5's, they're just smooth with the exception of the velocity adjustment hole.

Just curious as to why they changed it?

Re: Newer A5 right side receiver??

I believe that's the way an X7 is laid out as well. How new is the A-5 in question? There's another post that popped up recently here talking about the use of X-7 style valving and porting in the latest run of A-5's.

Re: Newer A5 right side receiver??

My friends one is newer, he bought it about 2 months ago. It has 2 ports on the right, one for the banjo, and an extra "plugged" port with a flat head bolt. I assume this is the RT port that someone on the link you attached is talking about.

I polished his internals, and first noticed the giant o ring laid flat (kind of an oval shape) around the ports. I assumed this was some kind of newer model. It doesn't seem to make a difference performance wise, but his marker is completely stock right now.

The funny thing is, I bought another A5 for myself a month ago (digi camo version) and the receiver is the "older" one.

Re: Newer A5 right side receiver??

Any noticeable differences in the left reciever? (just wondering if the newer right recievers are compatible with the older left recievers)

Re: Newer A5 right side receiver??

Hmm, i bought my A-5 new about 3 months ago off of ebay. I still have to look at the reciever to see if there are two ports or not. Thats kinda strange... so will the "newer" ones be better with air effeciency and so on?

Re: Newer A5 right side receiver??

It's the newer receiver, and it fits fine with the left side....there were no changes to the left. This was done so that tippmann wouldn no longer have to deal with the 'T' type banjo fittings and just use the 90deg fitting......but then they started making the 98's with a single hole for the r/t and cyclone (pre tapped) so they still have to deal with the 'T' type fitting, though maybe just a bit less.

Re: Newer A5 right side receiver??

Well i looked at the right side and didnt really notice anything. I have never looked at a different a-5 up close so i dont know... the same goes for the X-7's. So what exactly should i look for? I dont really know to many parts of the a-5 either.

Thanks for the help.
