i polished my internals, and i think i took off to much...

i recently polished my internals and now the bolt seams to rattle a bit. i have no leaks, but i can only get 230 fps out of it with the screw all the way out. i was getting about 275 with the screw a little farther than flat with the out side. i checked the a5 for dummy's, and it said to make sure its flat, and it looks like it is. how could i find out if its flat, and if its not that, what is it, and what can i do to fix it.

What did you use to polish the internals. If you hear your bolt rattling that is a sign that you took way too much off.

Move your adjustment screw out. Too far in can have the same affect as being too far out.

Re: i polished my internals, and i think i took off to much...

forgottensoldier: i used a really high grit sand paper (dont know the number, but it felt kinda smooth, you could not feel any individual bumps.) i tested it on a little of the outside (by where the tombstone connects, so you cant see the scratches), and it took some paint off, but it only lightly scratched the medal. i don't it take any off, it just scratched it.
it doesn't rattle to where you can hear it, but you can feel it shifting around lightly. it shots fine (besides the speed), and it could just be i have a bad spring.

firemedic: i put it all the way in, and slowly worked my way out, until it shot out. i think its either the bolt not hitting right because it is not going straight, or the spring is bad, or something different. ill swap out the spring, and see if that works. the only problem is i don't have a chronograph, and have to mess with it, wait until i play, test it and start over, until it works.

Try installing a harder spring or put a bb in the endcap. also a new hammer oring can do wonders.

Re: i polished my internals, and i think i took off to much...

I would lube everything back up just to be sure, and drop a BB into the hole where the end cap is (at the end of the spring) as suggested by Silentdeath. This will stiffen up the spring.

Don't loosen that velocity screw too much or you risk it falling out. If the BB trick doesn't work, you might need to try a stiffer spring.

You're going to have to get your hands on a chrono to make sure everything is working to the right velocity. You don't need to max out to 300FPS, 280 or so is fine.

Re: i polished my internals, and i think i took off to much...

I'm just throwing this out there,But is it possible that you mixed up the drive spring with the cocking rod spring? It sounds like a drive spring problem to me.The only reason I say this is because I did the same thing the first time I took my A5 apart.Luckily I caught it before I put it all back together.

Re: i polished my internals, and i think i took off to much...

i took the whole thing apart, and oiled it. Ill get a bb on Tuesday (on weekends people play airsoft at my school). i also just changed the hammer o ring, so that cant be it.

thebowtwo: i thought about this, and i dont think the pin will fit in the cocking spring. i checked this any way, and it is the right spring, but thanks for the idea!
