Broken Linkage Arm

During the Final Battle at a recent 24hr scenario, my A-5 stopped shooting. Every time I pulled the trigger, the marker would fire, but no ball was feeding. I immediately figured the ratchet in the cyclone was gone... . After a few moments, I did a partial field strip and realized that everything on the marker was operating normally, except the front bolt was not moving.... I found this to be very strange and not a "normal" type of internal failure on the A-5.

Once I got home I performed a complete disassembly and found the Linkage Arm to be snapped in 2 right the bend for the front bolt.

I don't think this failure is common, and I wouldn't imagine it would be something to worry about, but I figured I'd post it anyhow.

This is the part I will need to replace....

Re: Broken Linkage Arm

Yeah, that's not a common part to break. I'd call Tippmann. They might even send you one free of charge. If not, just buy one and you probably won't have to worry about it again.

Re: Broken Linkage Arm

I have never heard of that happening.
It seems like a solid part to me and it appears to be made of steel. There must have been something very wrong with it for that to happen.

Re: Broken Linkage Arm

I agree, the part must have been defective.

I keep my A-5 in tip top shape and do a complete tear down at least once a month and I only use them once or twice each month... so it was WELL maintained.

I'm goint to call Tippmann tomorrow and see if they'll send me a new on, if not the replacement is only $2.60+ shipping. That would be a good excuse to buy a couple extra things so the shipping cost is a bit more off set.

Re: Broken Linkage Arm

OCMI VIPER,

you could have just got some brass stock from Orchard Supply or some hobby shop to fab that linkage. I had to this for one of my pro-carbines because the rear site moved out of the retaining notch and the linkage arm which is exposed and fell out during a game. Did not take to long to make, two bends and cut to fit. I thought the linkage was made of brass because I ran a magnet over one of my other pro-carbine linkages and it was not ferrous. Hope this helps.

Re: Broken Linkage Arm

Thanks for the idea, but I found a spare in my pile of spare Tippmann parts.
