| low velocity? check the screw! I had a problem getting my velocity to go above 250-260 for about a month. I tried changing out the internals piece by piece, different air sources, barrels, paint, everything. When I finally figured it out, it was the velocity screw. Apparently, the stock powertube had stretched around the threads on the screw for some reason. The air blow by was so miniscule, you couldn't tell. I put a different screw in from a 98C and presto! 330 fps. Thought I would throw it out there since I haven't seen it mentioned before.

| Re: low velocity? check the screw! Basically, the screw and/or the power tube was stripped. Since I was updating the rear bolt and valve anyway, my resolution to the problem was to replace the tube. Funny thing is that it came with a new screw, anyway ![]()

| Re: low velocity? check the screw! Spartan, What kind of marker, whats his air source, etc. I've encountered alot of 98s that couldn't get under 300 in the past couple years. I have never figured it out but I'm guessing that its got something to do with the valve. Other than the velocity screw, it's the next thing that directly affects velocity. If the spring is worn, it shoots low so if it sticks or is bad spring with too high of a sring rate, one would assume that it would shoot hot. I could be wrong. Check all the o-rings, springs, etc. If it's e-gripped it could be the dwell setting. I have zero experience with them, but I think thats how they work. Is this the same friend that you mentioned the other day that had low shooting problems?
