This protrusion has a groove running along it's edge which I assumed was for placing the O-Ring on. I've had it like this forever, but was I supposed to just place it like this? I'm getting this impression now that I should place it loosely behind the bolt (so that the bolt makes contact with it each time the marker is fired).

I had the same tapco stock and you are correct Derf, that groove is where the gray oring goes. Tippmann sent me my black oring after I called them. Tapco, i believe, also started sending a second BLACK oring with each stock to be placed loosely between the stock end and the rear bolt to absorb the force of the blowback. I think someone contacted tapco and said that the rear bolt hitting the stock inside was cracking push pins on the A-5.

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

Dang, that's what I thought. I should have a fat o-ring lying around somewhere, that should do the trick.

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

Yea I know about the one in the endcap, it has always been there. This one is just a large black o-ring that sits behind the bolt not attached to anything. I just thought it to be strange since its not in the diagram and I know the A5 inside and out.
They changed out the rear bolt and sear, which I had already replaced those one time before. I havent had any problems with it since it came back...I guess im just a little dumbfounded...
Thanks for the replys tho!

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

The addition of the buffer o-ring became standard in the A-5 when they switched from the shiny paint finish/old rear bolt, to the new matte finish/new rear bolt. My old A-5 didn't come with the o-ring but my new one did. Most aftermarket parts will come with this o-ring as well (i.e. JCS RVA).

I like to think it helps keep my marker quiet but it's hard to tell when the rest of it is naturally loud anyway

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

I suppose it depends on the stock manufacturer whether they have them or not. Both of the ones I've had ( both from SpecOps, ) have had them. My stock endplate has one too.

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

I guess my A5 was just old enough to not have that piece when i bought it, because I had never seen that one before. It had the new rear bolt in it when i bought it, but not that o-ring. weeeeeeeird.

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

my older style A-5 came with one. but when i purchased my new A-5 i noticed it wasnt there. I really dont see much difference it makes. Although its just another piece to remember about when cleaning your gun.

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

I have ordered about 100 A5's in the last 8 mo (paintball dealer) and I have upgraded most all of them, and have seen some with this o ring and some without it the reason for it is unclear to me, but if it isn't broke don't fix it .
Just be glad it's working

Re: Back from Tippmann with extra parts??

weird. There's a bumper behind the bolt in my triumph.. lol.. I should look into getting one of those black ones for my A5.. It only makes sense... Weird tho, since I have a REAL old A5, you think it would have one..
