Internal silencing - will it work?

I recently got the idea to quieten my A5 slightly by reducing the sound from the bolt hitting the valve pin. To that end, I purchased a packet of felt "furniture feet", like you would put on the bottom of chair/table legs. I took one of the smaller pieces (they are circle shaped) and stuck it onto the front face of the rear bolt.

My question to you is this: Could I expect any problems with it? (I have not fired the gun with air or paint since doing the mod). As I see it there could be a potential problem with the valve pin not being pushed all the way in since the striker surface is softer. Might I encounter velocity problems of any kind, or recocking issues? Would my cyclone or future R/T suffer for it?

Re: Internal silencing - will it work?

more than likley yes, basically you are putting an obstruction on the contact surface, plus, I seriously doubt this will have any impact on actual sound dampening since the primary source of "blast" comes from gas pressure escaping from the barrel.

Re: Internal silencing - will it work?

Exactly, and with the felt inside the powertube you have a chance for some of the felt to get lodged inside the valve itself and disrupt the inner workings, possibly even destroy some o-rings.

Re: Internal silencing - will it work?

how to: quiet an A5

that will do. you can do that mod, and it does work abit but you dont want a very fury or cheep felt. I thought about using rubber too. in any case you would have to clean your gun often and keep an eye on the felt.

I dont believe you would have any volocity issues, as long as the felt stays out of the valve

Re: Internal silencing - will it work?

I glued a really thin piece of rubber on to my bolt in a attempt to make it quieter. It seemed to be working. I could actually hear a difference. Then about half way through the game it got louder and the trigger would occasionly stick. I also had some problems trying to cock the gun. When I opened my A-5 up, I found that the rubber had completly broken up into tiny pieces which had gotten into every nook and cranny of my internals.

I wouldn't recommend using rubber even though people have suggested it(the co2 probably makes it brittle)

So... try felt then go and shoot a couple hundred rounds then see if anything bad happens. If you can actually hear a difference then I would keep it on. I had people commenting on how quiet it was...... for a A-5.

Re: Internal silencing - will it work?

get u a 1/8 or maybe even 1/4 inch thick piece of silicone, cut it in to an O shape so it fits around the contact surface that actually touches the pin, and super glue it on. I wouldnt suggest doing this mod with any kind of subtsance if you are running CO2 becouse it will either destroy the material or stiffen it, reducing its effectiveness.
