Re: Scientific side by side comparison of leading aftermarket front bolts for the A-5!

Thanks for the info man. Unless you plan on showing off the inside of you gun to people at the paintball field, why buy a bolt just to make it look spiffy? IMO, the money could be better spent somewhere else.

Re: Scientific side by side comparison of leading aftermarket front bolts for the A-5!

I got my Dead On bolt becuase it is metal, and I take my A5 apart about every two games to reoil and clean. The plastic bolt was getting a little bit worn in the process. That is why I "upgraded" to the metal bolt and power tube.

Later,
Billy

What's your issue? I think the Orange Howitzer has the legitimate right to be in a Tippmann bolt comparison. It is a delrin bolt and it does offer the O-ring insert, which I would assume to be similar to the Shock-tech Super fly Mark 2. So far I have really enjoyed using it, but I would just like to see a statistical breakdown in comparison to the other bolts in this thread previously mentioned.

So what if it looks cool. Do you really think I would buy something for the aesthetic WOW factor. Just take a look at my A-5, I may have a lot of money into it but I'm all business when it comes down to it.

Re: Scientific side by side comparison of leading aftermarket front bolts for the A-5!

I would like to know some more information about the test...

First of all, pressure. Was the pressure consistently monitored enough to ensure that all 200 shots from all 6 bolts was stable? 1200 shots is a lot to be fired from any size air tank, well, any size except for the 48oz monster's I've heard tale of.

Second: Paintballs. Were they cheap-o paintballs, or mid grade? Did this guy drop serious cash for some premium shots? I play with the stuff running about $40 for a case of 2000, so I suppose that's mid-range.

The velocity measurement is just vague enough to bring out questions. A friend and I have differing opinions. It seems obvious to me that once the speed adjustment was made, the velocity adjustment was left stable for the remaining 200 shots, with the measurement showing the variance from the bolt.

It seems obvious to my friend that the velocity was adjusted to compensate for variations in the bolt's firing speed, and then the bolt would lose firing velocity mid-test, requiring re-adjustment. (showing an inaccurate bolt, with very poor velocity accuracy)

I can see validity to my impression of the review, as well as validity to my friend's impression of the review. As stated explicitly, there is not enough info on the test setup to rule out either interpretation. Which one of is is correct? Or, are we both wrong?

Re: Scientific side by side comparison of leading aftermarket front bolts for the A-5

Nice review. Thank you for taking the time to try and make it as unbiased as possible. I, like many others, don't upgrade the internals unless it shows to be beneficial, and this review is very interesting in that regard. I am not sure that such a small amount of improvement would be worth it by itself, however in conjunction with sever other upgrades with minor improvements maybe it all adds up.

Again, thanks for the interesting read, and the dedication to the sport to take the time to do it.

J

Re: Scientific side by side comparison of leading aftermarket front bolts for the A-5!

I think Xtremez.com just ripped me off. I got my DOP front bolt with Delrin insert and the damn thing is plastic and I don't see no freakin insert. WTF?! Isn't the DOP piece metal?
