Silencing JCS Redhot Powertube?

Ok, I have a Redhot Powertube on its way in the mail (stock powertube broke). I have heard that it makes a louder report, and that this is because of the aluminum on aluminum, as opposed to plastic on plastic (front bolt and powertube contact).

I have read about the A-5 silencing mod (putting a strip of neoprene or rubber thingy on the bolt, or valve face), and I was wondering how I could go about doing this with the Redhot.

Could I also do this for the front bolt without any negative effects? Could someone describe what I would need to do these mods (the usual valve face mod, and my proposed mod)? Also, materials needed and tips if possible.

Thanks a bunch,
Argelmcgee

Re: Silencing JCS Redhot Powertube?

the padding you are speaking of would do on the rear bolt or hammer. some members have used a felt pad and other simple use a larger o-ring.

are you talking about padding inbetween the powertube and the hammer? i can't say for certian about this method, i'll let someone else clarify. the location i know of putting this is on the back of the hammer, inbetween the hammer and the end cap or stock.

I wouldn't recommend this for the front bolt. Air needs to pass through the font bolt as it's pushing the paintball in order for the paint to get propelled out of the marker. If you can line the outer rim of the back of the front bolt with padding, it might work, but I'm not sure if you can cut the pad that thin without it falling off from the pressure. It would be cool if you could try it and let us all know.

As for the rear bolt, this thread should answer most of your questions...
UMS FELT PAD MOD. I performed this mod on my latest marker and have pictures if you'd like to take a look Mavro's A-5 .

So I guess I'll just put some self-adhesive chair bottom things on the bolt face. Sounds simple enough. Hopefully that will be enough to quiet the Redhot down a bit.
