Velocity springs

I was looking at certain upgrades and I came across velocity springs

Tippmann A5 5x Velocity Spring Set

Do these actually help with your guys velocity? Or are they just there for no reason?

Re: Velocity springs

I wouldnt call them an upgrade, more so an item to be purchased as needed. They can be very useful for getting your marker into the proper velocity range if you are having trouble doing so by normal means.

So you're saying they do make a difference?

Re: Velocity springs

Yes, get

If you don't have a RVA this will help you dial in your FPS.

Maddman spring kit

For the price it is nice to be able to adjust your velocity other then just your front adjustment.

Rear Velocity Adjuster (made by: JCS) and others.
Puts more pressure on the rear drive spring.

Re: Velocity springs

Here's why:

The stock spring exerts X amount of force to control your velocity between a given "spread."

The springs in a kit give you different strength springs. That allows you to fine-tune your velocity based upon the strength of the spring used. A heavier spring (in relation to the stock spring) gives you higher velocity because it puts out more pressure. A lighter spring will similarly gove you less velocity if your marker happens to run hot.

Generally speaking, you will get 3-4 springs depending on the maker. One will generally be of "stock" strength as a straight replacement of what came with the marker. Then there will be 2 or 3 more of different strengths as well...

Re: Velocity springs

Do a search for "spring kit" using the forum search. You'll get plenty of info about them.

If you need one, i'd suggest the Maddman springs as shadow51 said. They worked for me. After installing my Palmer stabilizer, my velocity dropped and I couldn't get it back to where it should've been. Bought the Maddmann spring kit, replaced the stock drive spring for the red spring out of the kit and hey presto, problem solved.

I've heard of other people purchasing spring kits by other companies, only to have them give no improvement.

Re: Velocity springs

The RAP4 kit is just a rebranded Trinity kit. They work pretty well but not as well as the Maddmann kit.
