Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

i used a spray on paint remover when i did my A-5 years ago.

it worked pretty well BUT you would want to tape off any way for the thinner/stripper/remover to drip or leak onto the out side of the marker and maybe damage your paint job.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

Well I polished my internals last night. I didi not go tot eh fullest extent with it, just used some light steelwool, and made everything nice and smooth. Feels alot smoother when i pull the bolt back. Thanks for this great post.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

Yeah, I polished mine over the weekend. Used the Brillo method described here. Did not get a "mirror" finish but definitely much smoother. Noticed something like a long crack on the left receiver half (bottom receiver in the pic). Kinda like when you take putty or playdoh and fold it then compress (I have a 6 yr old daughter), you get a "seam" where it came together. It doesn't leak that I can tell, but still a little disconcerting. Also have a "bubble" about the size of a grain of rice. I tried not to "pop" it. Anyone else have similar defects?

Ummm...not of the type you described. You may want to give Tippmann a call...they might be willing to replace the half with the bubble in it. The problem mine had was some really deep grinder marks. (see my previous posts in this thread for pics) I was feeling a little wimpy when I was polishing (was afraid to take too much off), so I barely made a dent in those marks. I'm seriously thinking of making another go of it and spending more time using a 600 grit sandpaper.

**NOTE- WD-40 is NOT a substitute for regular marker oil. You should ONLY use the WD-40 to clean the surfaces. Upon reassembly oil the parts as you normally would during the reassembly process.

5.) Take a paper towel and fold it in half, then in half again. Spray the paper towel with a bit of WD-40…

6.) Rub the internal surface with the towel in a front-back type motion just as you did when scrubbing with the Brillo pad…

7.) Now you should have a nice smooth and clean operating surface…

Hell no dude! Acetone would eat your O-Rings away. I was taught when i airsofted, that you never use anything with any kind of petroleum in it. You use 100% silicon spray, or something recommended by Tippmann.
