Any tips on getting these? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't worry about it since that part isn't important.

if it's really bothering you, dip the copper pad in some laquer thinner. that'll get it off but don't let it drip or run onto any other parts that are painted because it'll eat up the paint.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

Great FAQ! First mod I did to my A-5 and I was very impressed with the results. Reduced internal noise, higher velocity (had to immediately adjust my FVA after I finished this mod!) and a slight improvement in efficiency. Overall the best benefit was the pride I gained, for myself, of my marker, when I dazed into the mirror-like polished receivers.

Uh... whoh. I spent about 1/2 hr per side and it shines like crazy. I then got somewhere around 10 fps better, and the reduction in noise is incredible!! Major props to this thread and the author!!!!!

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

well 188 replies later and I'm totally sold. The first thing I am doing is polishing my internals when i get off work. I have heard alot of different ways to accomplish this but I think Monitors ways are probably the safest for us nOObs. There is one thing i have to add < BE CAREFUL WHICH CHEMICALS YOU USE TO STRIP AND CLEAN YOUR HALVES MANY CAN DAMAGE ALUMINUM, BE SURE TO READ THE LABEL>

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

Very good "How to", but I would make a couple of suggestions. After using the brillo pad or sand paper, rinse the parts in the hottest water that comes out of your tap. Use rubber gloves and vigorously swish it around in the water for a couple of minutes. Take it out and blot on paper towels to get most of the water off. The heat that the metal absorbed should be enough to finish the drying process. Afterwards, wipe with denatured alcohol, instead of WD-40. WD-40 contains hydrocarbons, which damages marker o-rings, even in minute quantities. Denatured alcohol is safe to use on aluminum and evaporates without leaving any contaminants. Once that is done, reassemble using a good marker oil.

Cheers
