Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

If you're worried about going too far, then don't go for a mirror finish.

Just take the rough surface off. If it feels smooth enough to not wear down the O-Ring, then that's good enough! Nobody can see the internals anyway

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

Just did mine---no result yet on speed (no chrono), but DEFINITELY a smoother sounding shot.
THX for the HOW-TO. Awesome post!

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

I just finished mine and I used a 3M superfine sanding sponge, they cost about a buck. All this sponge will remove is the over spray, if you are worried about taking off too much I suggest this sponge.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

If you're worried about sanding too much, try this stuff:

http://www.nevrdull.com/index.htm
Picked up at Ace Hardware for $4.

I used this to polish my internals and all it does is remove the overspray, no metal at all. The only thing is it takes quite a bit of elbow grease in the areas that have a thick coat of paint on it but at least you don't have to worry about stripping the metal away.

PBJ Time Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

You can use never dull. If you are afraind of taking too much with sandpaper. It requires a little work but still gives a nice smooth finish. Just remeber to wash off the residue with WD-40 and then apply oil before assembling. Takes about 3 hrs.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

I was a little worried about taking too much metal off so I used aircraft paint stripper on a rag **** WEAR GLOVES AND MASK AND DO IT OUTSIDE****** the paint wiped right off. After that I took some steel wool and lightly polished the insides and the little ledge just above the channel so the rod would guide a bit smoother.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

Just finished mine. Boy what a PITA! I have to say DONT use the brillo pads with the "oxy soap" crap. makes it WAY too slick. not enough friction to get the over spray off. I only did the concave portions in the reciever. Thats all you need to do right?
