Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

I did this tonight and it was a huge pain in the butt! I used 000 gauge steel wool just to make sure I didn't take off more than I needed to. Tried using some stainless steel polish (couldn't find Nevr Dull at either Home Depot or WalMart), but it was mostly useless. I didn't get all of the paint off... it was really difficult to get to the bit where the large concave section meets the small. I did smooth the paint down so it was soft to the touch, and most of it came off in the easy-to-get-to areas.

I don't have a chrono to see whether I got an increase in FPS or not (chrono should arrive one Wednesday though ) However, I was able to get the gun back together without leaving any bits on the table! This is quite an achievement for me since it's the first time I've taken it apart

Thanks for the writeup Monitor... that's good info.

A word to the wise: If you're not a patient person, DON'T DO THIS MOD! It took me a good three hours and a great deal of elbow grease... phew!

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

I agree. I had the same issues getting to the paint in that area where the 2 sections transition. I got one side but finally gave up on the other because it was only left in the very corner, & it's where the moving parts aren’t going to hit.

I also found it nearly imposable to get the paint off the section where the barrel adapter screws into. That was a bigger PITA then the other section!

Perhaps people can post up pointers for doing these problem areas?
For the corner at the transition point, I put the brillo pad on a pen, and used that to push it into the corner.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

I've seen a few reccommend paint remover of one kind or another. As long as it doesn't etch aluminum.

Re: How-To: Polish Your Internals

I used a Dremel tool w/ a fine wire wheel to strip the paint and I used 600 grit model sand paper to finish it off.

You should also do the front bolt area (the smaller diameter section up front). This will help with the velocity more then the rear section.
