Re: Painting the A5

There's a saying i learnt from my former mechnics teacher, the best paint job is all about preperation, preperation and preperation.
Anyways, i think you should paint it to match your gear/clothing that you will be wearing. If you could, and very little people do it, fill up that area where the a5 plaque used to be.
Here's mine:

Re: Painting the A5

I think OD marker (receiver halves, cyclone and hopper) with black mag, grip, barrel, etc.. looks really good. I think tan is too light for my area, is you live in a more desert like area the tan might work better for you then the OD

Re: Painting the A5

I dont think there is a "how to" on filling that plaque area up. I guess i'm gonna have to make one, unless someone beats me to it. I basically used jb weld to fill up the area. Then sanded down the excess.

Re: Painting the A5

I just got done powder coating the A5 and the M98 and they looks sharp. There a nice flat black and I really like it. So I voted flat black. For touch up I bought the flat black camo paint from Wally-world (Wal-Mart) and its a nice match to fix the minor problems :-)
I think there is a gent on the fourm called wookie that has examples of other paint jobs he has done as well as walkthought on how to digi paint the marker and a few other patterns.

His post: [HOWTO] Paint your marker Digital Style

Link to his page:
Custom Paintball Camouflaging Using Duracoat and DIY Paint Stencils

Post pics when it done. Would like to see what you did.

P.S To touch base on what rx78gp02 posted about filling up the plaque area. I had to jump over to Model98.org - The Tippmann 98 Resource. as I read there before on there painting and milling of the M98. There was a post that the use of JB weld on such a large area would look bad in the end. Not sure why. But they suggested the use of a two part bondo type product found in auto stores. Fill the gap, let it dry and sand, sand, sand away the extra bondo. Prime then paint away. This coming winter I am going to doing this and filling in the milled text as well. Need to find something that can withstand high temp as I will be powder coating the marker again.
There is also a gent called airhog that if asked could point us in the more correct direction of filling in the gaps on the marker.

Re: Painting the A5

How to fill in the name plate (General How-to):

Disassemble gun competlely first!

Take a knife or screwdriver or anything with a flat pointy tip and get underneath the name plate.

Pull up on the name plate.

The name plate is held on with a rubbery glue/adhesive.

Next get some aircraft striper and spray down both receiver halves.

Let sit for 10-15 minutes. Scrub down with water and A LOT of paper towels. WARNING: Don't get aircraft stripper on anything but the gun. Keep off skin and clothing. IT WILL CAUSE CHEMICAL BURNS! I know because I got some on my skin and didn't rinse it off right away.

Let dry. Repeat if not all of it came off. Make sure its 100% clean!

Get some JB weld and mix approprately with a 1:1 ratio mixture.

Fill in area. Use painters blue tape to "contain" the jb weld because the jb weld will begin to run a bit after 30 minutes or so. I usually just tape over so it creates a semi even surface so its less sanding after it dries.

Let it dry/cure over night.

Remove painters tape and begin sanding with: a file for rough, thick areas. 100 grit or more course sand paper for the finer areas.

Sand down until it appears to be flush with the body.

Air pockets will appear, so rinse off with water and a brush to get into the pockets.

Make more jbweld mixture and use a straight edge of some kind (I use chop sticks Ig et from chinese restaurants) and apply over the are again to fill in just the holes and any imperfections from the first layer. You want a thin layer since its only to cover up small imperfections and will leave you less sanding work in the end.

Sand again with 100 grit sand paper.

Repeat if necessary, otherwise you are done.
