Technically nitro would refer to a pure nitrogen gas filled tank. Many people use it as a term for HPA however. But being as the atmosphere is over 70% nitrogen and because they use the same tanks at the same fill pressures, no they behave exactly the same. However pure nitro fills will also cost more.

Re: HPA vs C02

HPA. if you can afford the tank, it last really long if you get a good one. I have a 70/45 stubby and it lasted me like 2-3 days of play running it through my Proto Matrix 7. It runs alot cleaner and easier on your gun too.

what i was going to say. Only question i have is, does pure nitrogen last any longer than HPA?

Re: HPA vs C02

HPA FTW!

I initially ran C02 just cause I was a noob. I soon got tired of the velocity spikes and purchased a Crossfire 88/4500 Fiber and have not looked back. Just recently I won a 68/4500 Fiber with a Myth Reg.

I fill from my 80 Cuft SCUBA tanks with a fill station. 8$ to fill both SCUBA bottles gives me plenty of fills for my marker tanks.

There are some fields that actually do use nitrogen. If they buy compressed gas, as opposed to owning their own compressor, it's most likely nitrogen. This is because the only pre-filled compressed air cylinders you can buy are filled with medical grade air, which is more expensive than nitrogen.

This is becoming less and less common these days with the lower prices on compressors though. You can now get a 4500 psi compressor for under $3000, where as back when Nitro/HPA first started to be used in paintball it cost over $10000 for a 3000 psi compressor. So back in the old days fields would just buy compressed nitrogen tanks because it was cheaper. That's why they're often called nitro tanks, because that's what they were originally filled with.

Re: HPA vs C02

I didnt vote, i haven't used both.
i have a 24oz co2 tank as of right now, attached to a remote line.
it's an aluminum tank (as opposed to steel commonly used in CO2 tanks) so it's a bit lighter.
my velocity (NO REGULATORS) honestly stays within 10fps, usually less, which i'm happy with.
i haven't tried colder weather yet, but i have a scenario coming up on october 12th, so we'll see how that goes.
i plan to get a nice huge HPA tank and use it, but sinc ei have a response trigger i'm probably going to still use CO2 some of the time.

Dude, those air pumps sound pretty cool.. what brand is it, I will see if I can get one here in NZ

Re: HPA vs C02

I hav a couple of questions... For somebody who uses both HPA and Co2 do you ever notice a difference in the report through the same barrel obviously?? I would think that one would be just as loud as the other!? But i'm interested to know? The other thing is should an HPA tank be completly empty before filling or can it be filled when at half level? Thanks in advance! :-)
