Re: UMP with Apex?

well it really depends, the APEX tip looks like a small plastic cup in front of the barrel only black. You can always take it off though, so you can get any barrel and either buy a UMS APEX adapter or make one yourself with tape, eitherway you will need at least an 1 and half for the tape adapter and according to UMS 2 inches for their APEX adapter. Also you can always make an APEX tip cover out of PVC pipe and make it look like a silencer. And if you are creative enough you can even make it so you can still adjust the ramp and twist the tip.

btw you don't have to get a "APEX ready" barrel iun order to use an APEX tip, getting one of those just saves you the time of getting a UMS adapter or making your own with tape.

Re: UMP with Apex?

Oh Yeah, I have made 3 tape Apex adators for other people. I just though that a Lapco barrel would be perfect for the peeps that also want an Apex.

I really don't like the Apex though.
Oh well

Re: UMP with Apex?

i used to run an apex on my ump'd a5 and i loved it. has a good look to it as you can see on the other link. later though i wanted a more milsim look so i switched to a 14" sly barrel w/ ops gear suppressor and shroud. i love the look of it. the only customizing we had to do was take the suppressor and shroud and put it in a drill press with a #30 drill bit and drill holes to allow for blow back. we then used a small brake hone to clean out any burrs. the whole process took about 20 minutes and havnt had a single issue since doing this. anyways here's a profile-ish shot from last weekend.
NOTE: we removed the barrel from the suppressor before doing this. just feel like it had to be said.

I do like the look of the UMP shroud. It's a real pity that i'm not able to get one here in Australia. Customs here are fairly strict on what they will let into the country.

Just so you know, the Apex probably won't give you better accuracy. It will give you more distance than a normal barrel, but if you're looking for better grouping or better shot to shot consistancy I don't think the Apex is the answer. For this, your best bet would be to invest in a stabilizer / regulator. The most popular ones used amongst operators on this forum is the Palmers stabilizer (commonly referred to as a "stab"). There are many different types of stabs available from Palmers.

Apart from this, to get better shot to shot consistancy invest in a HPA tank. It's widely known that HPA doesn't have the inconsistant properties that CO2 does, and HPA is far more marker friendly. The other thing you can invest in to get tighter shot groupings is invest in an aftermarket barrel. The Palmers Brass, J&J Ceramic and Hammerhead are all popular choices, and are all far better than the stock barrel.

Hope this helps you on your quest. Good luck, and post up some pics when you're done.
