Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

agreed, it would have to snug up pretty well, wiggling is bad.

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

I'm definitely looking forward to your progress.

If it can be mounted on regular rails in its final version, launchers could benefit too...MWA HA HA HA ....

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

Snugging up the pins are my biggest concern as well. I don't want it to twist or move the elevation by sliding.

I have updated the rail a little since I originally posted, so I'll put some pics up by this evening.

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

Here's the rail with alignment rails on the sides. It should help keep the screw perpendicular to the rail.

And as you can see, there are set screws in the bottom, as well.

Here's how the rail looks now:

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

better and better, best of luck.
i may have missed it, but were you planning to have this mount directly onto an A5 top, or onto another rail?
(if you ask me having it able to mount both ways would be really handy, as some probably already have their A5 flat-topped and railed up)

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

That's a good point. I had planned on it mounting directly onto the 3/8" rail on the A5 for now. I'm sure a picatinny version wouldn't be hard to do but I'm taking it one step at a time.

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

Quick question: why not use a pivot at one end, and a screw-mechanism of some kind to raise and lower it at the other?

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

It's possible but I'm not that mechanically inclined. This just seemed the most straight forward idea at the time.

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

What if you rotated the "nuts" that lock the Top part of the rail 45*? So instead of being like this:
___
___
___

It would be like this:
/ \
\ /

Well, sorta like that. I hope you get my point...

Then you could put grooves in the bottom part the mount, to lock it at certain degrees. For example 1*, 2*, 3*, etc. You could even go 1/2*'s possibly.

Anyway, Good luck with this project!

Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail

VVulfe: that's an interesting idea, but this is much simpler to implement than what you mentioned.

KRA SHARPSHOOTER: you're going to have to try a tad harder there, i can't make heads or tails of what you're trying to say or do...
