| Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail After calling around some, it looks like this can't be done in aluminum. People are quoting around $1000 or more and they said it can't be welded together, either. Also, to make it out of a solid block of aluminum wouldn't allow for squared corners. So I would either have to have it made out of plastic, steel, or something. What are tolerances for welding? Is 2mm too thin for any material to be welded? |

| Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail why would having a solid block not allow for squared corners? i've only done very basic milling and had no problem with that...

| Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail Its been a while since I've given an update but it looks like the aluminum idea is out the window. Its just way too expensive to make. Instead, I'll be making it out of ABS plastic at about 1/7th the cost. I finalized the design but will post pics of what it looks like once its finished and in my hands for copying purposes. Hopefully I can have it in my hands by the end of next week at the latest. |

| Re: Idea: Adjustable Picatinny Rail On one of markers I have has UMP shroud mounted. The plastics rails have allowed me to insert a wedge shim under the top rail increasing the down angle of the red dot....about 3 degrees or so. I them determined my average kill zone (say 75ft) zeroed to that distance. I cursed those plastic rails at first!!! But being able to bend easily to place the shim there has made my red dot a godsend... On a side note..... I've started the SIR mod to my other A5 so now I am trying to figure out how create some kind shim or adjustable riser!!!! I was thinking about using a thick piece of weaver rail to mount my red dot to. Then drill a hole at the rails end to create a pivot and mount to a weaver sling mount or something which would attach to the shroud. On the other end of the rail drill a hole to mount a threaded stud and a adjusting nut to another weaver sling mount. It would be like an adjustable bridge. But I like what you are putting together!!!!! Last edited by technosnob : 09-10-2008 at 11:35 AM. |
