Anyone know of any companies making a 7.62mm NATO sized magazine for the A-5? Preferably one that can be mounted over the tombstone, and not just attached to the screw where the front grip goes.
I know RAP4 sells (or did sell) a G3 style mag. But it attached where the front grip screw is which of course is too far forward.

Are you looking for something like the lapco magwell?

Bear in mind that if you are looking for a AK look, the AK mag does not fit right at the triggger guard.

I use a metadyne AK mag. looks great, and its rock solid.

What I'm actually going for is the HK 417 (the 7.62x51mm NATO version of the HK 416).

UMS can custom make a magwell, but that is my only guess unless you have access to a machine and paint shop. Sounds like a cool idea. Just look at some of the online gun sights for the mag, shouldn't be too hard to find.

Or maybe I could go with the 50 round drum originally developed for the HK21E, which can also be used with the HK417.




No idea where I'd find something like that though...

The mag pictured in the first two photos of the HK417 (the 416 is 5.56mm whereas the 417 is the 7.62mm variant) is actually a steel G3 magazine; it was an early prototype design. The newer production 416's use a proprietary magazine system which is different (shown in the last photo). I'd suggest you try to modify something yourself, as I don't believe there is a commercial version of what you are looking for available yet. I've seen this modification done before, but I can't exactly place where... G3 magazines can be had for $3 - $10 a pop, if you're looking for one. Don't pay anything more than that because the market is flooded with them and anyone who tells you that they are 'rare and hard to find' is blowing smoke up your you know where Also you can try the X7 straight mag kit. It's not exactly 7.62mm sized, but it may work for you if you do some tinkering

P.S. The HK 50 round drums are actually rare, and they cost more than a Beta C mag if you can find them! About $950...

well im not sure if you would like to know this but Dhallak over on the X7OG boards is making a heavy mag for that maybe some how when his business starts up you can order one and mod it to the a-5?

Contact flatlines up from the underground mod shop or airhog. They can both make you what you want.

I assumed you meant 7.62X39 and you meant 7.62X54 (NATO)

That's another cool rifle from HK, and a mag/mag well that should be made for the A5. If Lapco would make a .308 mag like that, it would work for a whole bunch of looks...

I once had a range instructor tell me "If Jesus was here, he'd shoot 7.62."

That's going to be a good look - It's pretty much where I'm heading with mine, except that I swapped the CAR stock for a G36 skeleton.
