Ok guys,
Im wanting to get an UMP kit for my a-5, wanting to know which kit you guys prefer? as far as specops or opsgear, or which parts would you mix-match? I want it to be sturdy and durable...

OPSGEAR all the way. It's 100% metal, with the exception of the rails, and it hasn't failed on me once. I would skip buying the OPSGEAR G36 stock (it will break eventually) and saving the money up to buy a Metadyne folding stock as it's certainly worth what you pay for it and just about bulletproof. You can buy a set of metal rails if you prefer, but it's really not necessary as the stock ones are plenty strong enough for a foregrip, but I would not consider using them for a bipod. I can't say the same for anything Spec Ops has made, which has failed on me numerous times across the board.

also, i have a j&j edge kit, just wondering if it would work with that kit, im thinking it will probably not look right being too long. What barrel would you guys recommend?

The UMP kit looks best with short barrels. 6" barrel lengths allow for about 1/2" - 3/4" to stick out past the end of the shroud. The cut out on the shroud allows for 1" barrel diameters. I like the OPSGEAR SMG barrel, or any of the shorty hammerhead barrels are great too. I tried a J&J 12" ceramic once, but it never looked right, too long and awkward, unless you plan on mounting a fake suppressor, that is.

specops makes a UMP kit for the a5?

most popular is the opsgear shroud with the mag & the g36 folding stock. toss on a foregrip & you're good to go.

For the barrel, yes a 12" would look weird, but you can try the opsgear fake supp. kit and the UMP will look very nice.

I went with the Fluted SMG barrel... only 6" but wicked accurate for such a short barrel.

With a longer barrel it looks like the civilian carbine version, which I think is as good looking (or better) than the military version.

ops gear has a pic of the kit with a fake suppressor, i kind of like that look. Anyone know which, if any of the suppressors there will work on the j&j barrel?
