HK416 vs. AK-74 mod

Hey,

I just joined this site a few days ago, you guys all seem to know your stuff. I have been playing paintball off and on for some time, but just renting my gear. I was never really having that much fun because of the terrible guns and foggy masks. So I decided to just buy my own mask and gun, then I started learning about MILSIM and I really love it. So this “just get a mask and gun” has turned into a very expensive venture...though I'm sure you can relate to that.

Now I'm really undecided on how to mod my A-5. I want to go with both a M416 variant and AK-74 mods (pictured below) but I'm really not sure. I can see that I will probably pick up another A-5 sometime in the fall and make the other one then, so which one to buy/mod first. I have a little noob team set up with some friends, for fun and we'll probably be playing a lot of both big outdoor games and CQB games....so this is why I'm not sure which one will have the better performance over all. The hk416 will might be a little too big for CQB, but the shorter barrel on the AK-74 might not be good for bigger long range games.

Basically from what you see is there going to be really that big a difference between them? and if no. then which one you would go for. Thanks a lot!
Here’s the picture I made in Photoshop of what each will look like modded (approximately).

Mods:

HK416:
M416 shroud
M4 12” barrel (or maybe a 14”)
M4 Gas Through Magazine
Folding G36c stock
Foregrip
Laser Sight

AK-74:
AK-74 shroud and barrel
Black Synthetic AK47 Magazine
AK47 Flattop Rail
A5 AK47 Metal Folding Stock

It's really personal preference.... I think the AK47 would be a little cheaper... but that's just a guess. I have an HK416 myself and it's great... but I'm already wanting to build an MP5

Re: HK416 vs. AK-74 mod

i'd do the 416 if you had a CAR stock on it, stock saddle, a straight mag (like the 417) and i would probably put the palm rest on the gripframe and pitch that foregrip and fire a bipod on there

Wait, do you mean 74 as in ak-74u? because if you don't you can get it a longer barrel if you meant ak-47. I have one and is AWESOME!!! It makes the little kids crap their pants and once actually scared some guy who looked like he had been doing it all his life, but besides the intimidation factor, it works great and I can even snipe with it,(mostly because of APEX) but the CAR stock really helps too for stabilazation, so I would go with the 47(not 47u I'm presuming)

yeah it is the 74u that i want to go for. I like it's small size. I really really love the AK, but I have only seen one or two A-5 Aks that i like. I find otherwise I would always be looking at the little faults....for some reason i don't feel this way about the 74u. But thanks for the input!

Re: HK416 vs. AK-74 mod

OPSGEAR made the AK-Tactical to counter-part their 416 kit.

It's well made too, and I think it looks better than wood furniture on a Tippmann A5.

Re: HK416 vs. AK-74 mod

Yeah, when i first saw it I didn't like it because of the AK mag on it (too far forward) but the shroud it's self is awesome. Maybe I could put on a M4 gas through mag, that shroud and the folding stock. It's like 3 guns in one, but I think it might look good....hmmm. I will have to think about that, maybe put it together in Photoshop and see how it looks....

A local store did a sloppy job, throwing together an AK-Tactical on a Tippmann, and it looked great.

-OPSGEAR AK-Tactical Shroud
-Appropriate Wood Furniture AK Stock *Not sure which brand. Maybe TACAMO?*
-LAPCO Gas Through AR Mag
-Milsig 416 Rear Diopter Sight

It looked beastly. I wanted 1. In fact, if I had a spare A5. I would have used the AK-Tactical, and turned it into an AKM.

Yeah, it is a shame that the mag is so far ahead like all of OPSGEAR's faux mags. I do like the waffle mag they had for the AK-Tactical though.

Re: HK416 vs. AK-74 mod

I have just picked up the 416 shroud and the only dissapointment is that the shroud is so short. I have also purchased the UMP and M203 shrouds from opsgear. I used the commando stock, with the opsgear mag well and pmag and it has really come together.
