Re: What length barrel is best?

Pumbaa,

The bullpup mod is called the B-5 by it's creators. It's three hundred bucks, but it does come with an APE board. Here are a couple links. Check out the videos on the identity crisis site. If you run a 10" with that mod, the barrel is flush with the gun. I think 14" or 16" would look good with the B-5. Now my sons want to go with flatlines which are pretty much flush. To each his own I guess.

Re: What length barrel is best?

Although a 12 to 14 inch in length for a barrel size, don't you guys think that an 18 inch barrel would perform better in terms of accuracy? It may take more air usage but if it's one shot one kill then why does that matter? Just have to practice on your shots and how the balls would land depending on how far the targets are.

Re: What length barrel is best?

It's really subjective. You can't shoot over 300fps anyway, so velocity is taken out of the equation. Anything much over 14" is a waste of gas to drive it all the way out the barrel. Accuracy in a paintball is equal to the barrel that affects the ball the least. I use a shorty 5" in urban scenario just for quick handling. I use a 12" in the woods because anything much longer just gets tangled up in the brush and vines. I use a 14" Bigshot on my backup 98, but prefer the same in 12" on the A5.

For a good read on barrels and selection, go here:http://www.lapco.us/faq.html

Re: What length barrel is best?

14 is probably best for general play, but they all have their merits in my opinion, although i wouldnt go ne lower than 12. i shoot a 20, and i kno thats inefficient, but i dont shoot much. im also replacing that with a 16.

Re: What length barrel is best?

"Mr. Palmer" helped me solve my barrel length dillema in a way also. I bought a 1.5" flashpoint Freak tip that was a limited run from Palmer Pursuit. It screws right on the end of the Freak and gives it an overall length of ~8.5" inches. With the bore matched it drives tacks.

Re: What length barrel is best?

i think i am going to pick up a stock A-5, get a black palmer barrel, make s shroud for it and pick up one of these body kits.

actually, the guy who makes them will be in town next weekend for a local big game. so i will get to see it and shoot it in person!!!

Re: What length barrel is best?

12 inch because that is what I have. But anything over 14 inches offers NO improvements on performance. Looks is the only thing it gives. Good or Bad.

Re: What length barrel is best?

When I'm not using my Flatline or my 14" Compression Barrel, I use a 16" Smart Parts All-American. Why? Good question. You need to use the right barrel for the right job. The AA gives me a great accuracy/range combination on the days that I can't use the Flatty (i.e. humid, too cold, raining, etc.). I use the Compression when I'm sniping or scouting and I want to stay as quiet as possible.

Unfortunately, there isn't a simple answer for this other than use what suits you best. You may love a 14" J&J, but your friend might like Marmaduke’s Palmer Brass. Find the barrel that will help you mark your target with the least amount of shots, and you’ll find the best barrel.

If you want a number, I’ll say 14”.

Re: What length barrel is best?

Seriosuly, anything over 12" is overkill. It doesnt do anything for accuracy, and it only adds weight while making the marker harder to move around. If you get something thats longer then a foot, its purly for looks.
