How to: Cover Steel Braided Line - Shrink Wrap Mod

To do this, you will need:
*½inch shrink wrap
*Teflon tape
*Knife or razor
*11mm wrench
*Allen wrenches that came with your gun
*Hottest hair dryer that you can get

I would recommend buying the ½inch shrink wrap. The shrink wrap will have to be much bigger than your braided steel line so that you can fit it over the fittings that it will need to get it over.

First, unscrew the ASA from the grip frame, using your Allen wrenches.

Second, you need to remove the tombstone from its place.

Third, unscrew the line from its 90* fitting on the ASA, using your 11mm wrench.

Next, slide the shrink wrap over the line, all the way up to the tombstone.

Then use the hair dryer on its hottest setting to shrink the wrap around the line. Make sure that you push the shrink wrap up occasionally so that it stays flush with the tombstone, as it shrinks both ways. Do not hold the hair dyer in one spot for a long period of time, as it will cause an uneven shrink and an odd fit. Continue moving the hair dyer along every side of the line until you start to see the faint outline of the steel hose pattern. This means that it is about done.

The shrink wrap will stay in place, so all you need to do is use your knife to cut away the excess on the 90* fitting end. Then wrap the white Teflon tape between the 90* fitting and the nut used to screw the line in. You should wrap the Teflon tape around the threads of the bolt 3-5 times, based on the thickness of your tape. Make sure that you apply the tape so that it goes the same way that the bolt is turning. This is so that it doesn’t come off when you start screwing it in. It should get competently tight, but not so much that it will be hard to unscrew latter. And there you have it. If you should ever need to remove the shrink wrap, simply run a razor down the shrink wrap, and peel it off. I hope that you are happy with this mod, and how it looks.

Final product, First two pictures are of rob373's A-5 and the last two pictures are of my A-5:

Good Luck!!!

Well, you can get it from most places that sell electrical equipment. Just make sure that you dont get the stuff with the glue on the inside, because you will never get it off lol.

Im glad that it worked good for you.

I got mine from my dad (an electrician). I got the idea from Guardian, so I cant take all of the credit

Also, I recommend getting the HOTTEST air output that you can, otherwise, it may not shrink quite right/enough. I was able to use my dad's heat gun, which is made for doing this, so that helped.

We electricians are a crafty bunch!
Radio shack is way overpriced for shrink tubing, btw.
