DIY m16/4 magwell

A while back a member Tempest94 asked if I could make a guide on how I made my mag well for my A5. I also got the Ideal and template from another member TARUKIO

I started out with a 3' x 3''x 1'' 1/16 thick piece of box tubing this was alittle big I/D for my mag but it worked ,I bought this for 5 bucks at a metal supply near me. . You also need to get a mag of you liking be it a air soft one or the real McCoy depends on which state you live in..
I built this one with all hand tools , but if you have air tools it would be a lot easier to cut out the holes.. Remember to use safety glasses You will also need a vise or some thing to hold the metal...as you cut out the magwell.
And a drill and a 1/4 inch drill bit

Ok here ya go

First here are the tools I used

You will need to remove the tombstone and line first

I cut the angle of the magwell by placing the mag on the box tubing and getting the cut like the bottom of the mag..Draw a line with a marker to use a guide as you cut out that section.

Now place the metal in a vise to cut out the piece

Now that you have that done .Then I placed the piece of box tubing up to my A5 to get ideal on where to cut the magwell. You can play around on how far down you want it .. It was about 2 3/4 inches long at the long end.
#2

Mark where you want the cut to be.

Then draw a straight line across .

Place in a vise and cut along your line you just did.

Kewl! Now you have the beginning of your magwell ..

Now place it next to your A5 and mark where the cut out for your tombstone will be.Make sure your tombstone is in here in the pics I have it out ,If you don't the opening will be to small..
Now mark where your rear cut will be.The rear cut is deeper than the front because of the tombstone..

Now place in a vise and start the cut out for the tombstone and rear of the well.

When your done cutting the tombstone opening bend down the metal with a pair of vise grips or good set of pliers.

Cut off the piece you just bent done on both sides of the well.

This is what you should have now.

Now cut the rear and front opening and remove the rear piece . DON'T remove the front cut this is how you will attach the magwell to your A5 In my pic the front is cut to the line I did it should be just above that about 1/8 inch.the rear cut is deeper than the front. If you look at your A5 you will see how much of a diff. it is

Now on to part two

Re: DIY m16/4 magwell

Part two
Here ya go
Now place it up to your A5 and where you will need to file to make it fit. This is a trial and error part. just remove enuf to slide the magwell up .

Now mark where the push pin will be and use a rats tail file to make the opening

Now file all the openings smooth. And drill out the hole with a 1/4 inch drill where the front bolt will go .

The magwell attaches where your front grip was before

Now your done
This is what you should have

What ever mag you use just place it in the magwell and trim to fit.

On my mag I trim the whole rear of the mag to fit in the air line . Or you
can just make an small opening to fish your line in .

I also use pop rivets to attach it to the well but you can use anything you like machine screws or a small nut and bolts.

Re: DIY m16/4 magwell

Awesome! I like do-it-yourself mods. Much cheaper than buying upgrades and gives you something to tinker with.
