| How to: Modular barrel tip system I don't have any pics, but I'll get pics of the next one I make. Right now I can only describe it. Note: The things written in red are steps to make a real silencer. Please check your local laws before doing this, and neither I or the staff at A5OG claim responsibility if you get in legal trouble for this. Materials: About 12" of 3/4" and 1 1/2" ID PVC pipe 3/4" PVC male adapter(all you need is the threading) 3/4" PVC connector(one side female threading, one side smooth) 2 1 1/2" PVC end caps Set of assorted o-rings(I just bought a small box of about 10 of them at Home Depot... I only used the 2 smallest ones) Spray paint(optional) PVC Glue and Primer(optional) Drill and router bits the size of your barrel and OD of the PVC connector Saw or pipe cutter Round files or a Dremel w/ sanding tip Some sponge(it was the only thing I saw... Many other things will work, such as steel wool) Dremel (1/8"drill bit and possibly cutting wheel, and a flexible extender( makes it alot easier as well.) For reference in this, Palmer's brass barrels are .81" + .003-.005 for nickel or powder coating. A 7/8" hole works pretty well for that(0.875"). You can fill in the extra space with an o-ring if you wish. 1. Saw off the threading from the male adapter. 2. Use the round file or Dremel to get the threading to fit the barrel. It needs to be able to slip over, but needs to be pretty tight. The o-rings will be holding it on, but it can become shaky if it isn't tight enough. 3. Place a small o-ring on the barrel. It needs to be a very tight fit, I could barely fit mine on, then slide the threading onto the barrel. Slide another o-ring on in front of the threading. 4. Drill a hole in one of the end-caps the size of the OD of the smooth side of the 3/4" connector. A 7/8" hole will need to be bored out a little more with a Dremel or file. 5. Drill a hole in the other end cap the size of the outside of the 3/4" PVC(approx. 7/8", or 3/4" and bore it out). 6. Screw the 3/4" connector onto the barrel and connect the end cap and stick it on with a medium sized o-ring. One that will fit relatively tight on it. 7. Cut the 1 1/2" PVC pipe to the length you want the total thing to do. The longer the quieter if you are making a real one, but if it's too long it can do the same thing as excessive porting. 8. Place the 1 1/2" PVC pipe onto the end cap you just connected to the barrel(with the hole) and add the other end cap to it, not too tight, though, or you won't be able to get it back off very easily. 9. Loosely place the 3/4" PVC into it. Mark and cut to the length of the 1 1/2" PVC WITH BOTH END CAPS ON, otherwise the 3/4" pipe will be too long or short. 10. Dremel holes in any pattern in the 3/4" PVC pipe 11. Put it all together except for the end cap on the very end. Stuff the sponge or other material in between the 3/4" and 1/2" pipe. Make sure that it doesn't bend the 3/4" pipe in any direction while packing this(i.e.more on the top then bottom) 12. Place it all back together. You can optionally use PVC Glue and Primer right now, but it is not required. If you want to spray paint it do it now as well. An easy way to do this is to stab the leftover 3/4" pipe(or a stick) into the ground and then put the silencer on it and spray paint it that way. If you packed it with the stuff, it should make it considerably quieter. It will get rid of the higher-pitched "POP" sound, and will make it a lower *****ed "BUMP". I can also see making a Dishka that can be screwed on and off relatively easily, with another 3/4" PVC connector and a ID increaser to 1 1/2", then use the 1 1/2" pipe you already have to extend it a couple of inches. |

| Re: How to: Modular barrel tip system how good does it look?

| Re: How to: Modular barrel tip system It looks like PVC pipe with two endcaps on it... If you made a mock silencer I would suggest another method, becuase it doesn't look as good. But for a real one, this method is pretty good. I would take pics but my cameras out of battery. If you used a couple layers of 2" shrink wrap over the pipe It would probably look alot better. Also, if you could find flat PVC end caps(1 1/2") the ends would look better. |
