Valve: n. Valves control the flow of fluids and gasses and appear in several places in a paintgun system. Inside the gun valves control the flow of gas to the bolt.

Velocity: n. A term that defines both speed and direction. In common usage it is used to describe only speed, in this case of a paintball. Paintballs must leave the muzzle of a paintgun at 300 fps or less for safety reasons, and some fields have even lower limits.

Velocity spike: n. A sudden, often inexplicable increase in the muzzle velocity of a paintball gun.
