| Mavro's A5 - With a custom "Q-Stock" Once upon a time, many, many, many moons ago, I had a dream of incorporating a hopper into the stock of my marker to keep as low a profile as possible. After much trial and error, a significant change in my playing style, and the idea of also streamlining the regulator/stabilizer, that dream took on a life of its own and became a reality. FLUP can tell you how much I’ve annoyed him during the trial-and-error period to create different versions of stocks and mounts. He was very helpful and I thank him for his time and patience. Sniping has become my forte and along with my friend Skantz, we’ve become pretty good. May I introduce ARTEMIS, the latest addition to the Mavro collection. Named for the Greek goddess of the hunt, and my Trans Am. She features an integrated stabilizer with a top-facing gauge and what I like to call a “Q-STOCK" (patent pending). Why did I do all this? I always wanted a stabilizer but never liked the look of bolting one to the side or below my marker. I’ve seen lots of integrated stabilizers (SAW stock) and used them as inspiration to create my own. Ever get hit in the hopper? I have. More times that I care to admit. I wanted to get rid of the hopper and move my ammunition to a place where it wouldn’t become a target. What better place than in the empty space below my armpit (nothing else seems to like going there so I might as well make use of it :c)? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here’s what makes her purr (from left to right)… 1) 14” End Game Compression barrel – stealth is the key 2) OpsGear quick-release bipod – for those long glorious waiting stints 3) Tippmann A-5 – bought new with no extras. If I can’t mark you in three shots or less I won’t take the shot. 4) Engraved left receiver with shaved tombstone to make it flush with the body 5) Modified A5A2 tombstone to make the air flow from the right instead of the left 6) Custom collapsable foregrip – by Airh0g 7) UMS Short Striker Rail 8) Aimpoint 30mm red dot site with cantilever mount 9) Palmer’s Direct stabilizer 10) JCS RVA 11) Custom offset stock mount – by FLUP - modded with patience and plenty of tears 12) Smart Parts 1200PSI gauge 13) Lapco universal bottom mount adapter 14) Q-Loader (500 round system) 15) Palmer’s Stabilstock attachment I started with a new A5 because I couldn’t stomach the thought of snapping the Cyclone “tooth” off my marker without the comfort of having another marker in the background in case I messed it all up. I performed the felt pad mod using Lowe’s felt pads and Loctite Extreme Repair rubber adhesive(UMS FELT PAD MOD) and put the whole marker back together. ![]() Installing the factory-bought stuff was easy and didn’t take long at all. The tricky party was getting the stabilizer, all the air fittings, and the Q-Loader to play nice at the back of the marker. a) I installed the JCS RVA and removed the screw-on collar. I filed off the collar threading on the right of the RVA to make room for the 90 degree fitting that would eventually hold the gauge. Dremels are GREAT tools. I also filed off some of the plastic end cap housing to make room for the gauge itself. b) I connected the Stab to a custom offset stock mount developed by FLUP in the UMS, but had trouble fitting the nipple that my remote was destined to connect to. I had to file off more of the offset than I expected and haven’t had the chance to paint it (notice the Sharpie coloring). c) After it was all together, I added the macroline hosing with one macro 90, one macro straight, one steel 90, and the ASA cap from my remote (screwed directly into the tombstone under the foregrip). d) Time for the ammunition. I connected the Q-Loader receiver to the Lapco mount and aligned the hose connector with the bottom of the offset. I ran the hose along the marker to the main chamber, below the macroline. I’ll eventually replace the macroline with aluminum hardline but wanted to make sure I had all the kinks worked out first. The velocity and marker pressure are easily adjusted from the back using allen wrenches. Voila. She’s great. If anyone has any questions, definitely feel free to contact me with them. Thanks to Skantz, FLUP, and BabyBlue for all their help. -Mavro Last edited by Mavro : 03-15-2008 at 03:45 PM. Reason: Typo correction, changed image hosting |

| Re: Mavro's A5 - With a custom "Q-Stock" Mavro, Gratz man on the beauty of a gun you have over their at your house. Now I'm dying to get another game going just to see that thing in action ![]() Let me know how the felt pad on the rear bolt is working, I bet its better than just the o-ring. And that compression barrel, SWEEEETTTTTTT! |

Hard to say. The JCS o-ring and the felt pad mod definitely reduce the signature A-5 "ping." I'm told the noise reduction from the barrel occurs when you're being fired at, not when you're firing. I haven't had the chance to let me friends shoot at my with my marker yet. I'll test it out this weekend and update this page. Thanks a lot for all the great comments, guys.

| Re: Mavro's A5 - With a custom "Q-Stock" Mavro, Sweet, stealthy marker. To all the naysayers, thats why you have a bipod on a paintball gun, for machine gunning, or for waiting in ambush. MisterM - the TARGET will hear much less of the marker firing, i.e. you getting fired at by a Compression barrel. I think the Hammerhead works the same way; vents the gases from the barrel back to the shooter. Mav - ![]()
