How-To: Install Air-Thru Dogleg stock

I just posted this as a reply for someone who was having difficulty installing their new Dogleg stock and thought it might be useful in a thread on it's own for other new members or people having trouble with the install. I apologise in advance for my dodgy mobile fone pics. Will get a real camera one day

First, you need to connect the new braided line to the tombstone. Put some thread tape around the new connections and screw it in so it looks like this

Next you need to take the rear plate off by removing these two push pins

So it should then look like this

You then need to install the new mounting plate for the stock. From this pic you can see that I only used one of the rubber shims which keeps it movement free.

To do this I usually hold the marker against my shoulder (after taking the barrel off of course) and push the mount plate in with my left hand while pushing the pushpins in with my right.

Once you've done this, insert the tombstone with the new line connected.

With the tombstone and new braided line in, attatch the dogleg stock to the new back plate. Screw the bolt through the hole into the back plate. Tighten it up with the allan key.

Once you've done this, you'll need to bend the new braided line back towards the stock like this

Now, while bending it back to the connection on the dogleg, screw the line connector into the dogleg stock finger tight, then re-tighten with a spanner

Now the fun part. To get the foregrip to push on, you'll need to make sure the hole in the foregrip lines up with the tang at the front of the gun

While pushing the foregrip on, you'll need to hold the braided line down so it rests just above the tombstone housing because it'll want to try and fight it's way out of there. Be calm and persistant and you'll get it eventually. Once you have the foregrip in place, tip the marker so that it's pointing towards the ground. This will bring the foregrip nut to the front of the slide positioner. Take the screw for the foregrip and screw it in making sure that it screws into the foregrip nut

And there you have it. You've just installed your new Dogleg Stock . . .

Now smile big, get your gear together, and go and test it out.

If there's movement from the stock, you may have to place another shim in between the marker and the new back plate.

Also, don't forget that every time you disconnect and reconnect the air line, you'll need to re-apply thread tape.

Re: How-To: Install Air-Thru Dogleg stock

I'd like to add that this method will work for most if not all of SpecOps' airthru stocks.

I would also like to add that separating the stock from the mounting plate is strictly speaking not necessary, and Hedshotz only does it because

Re: How-To: Install Air-Thru Dogleg stock

Cheers Unrealist.

Actually, the only reason I separate the stock from the mounting plate is so I can fit the marker in my gun safe, which is just one of those small laptop jobbies. Just big enough to hold my stripped down marker, and a few other bits and pieces

Good writeup, as the Unrealist said. I don't own one of these but if I did, I'd sure use this for reference.

Well I just bought my a5 and an air-thru kit with a commando stock and I have heard how hard it can be to get the foregrip on so thank you very much.

Re: How-To: Install Air-Thru Dogleg stock

No worries at all guys. Glad to be able to help fellow OG'ers.

I heard about the dramas some people were having with getting the A5A2 foregrip on properly, so I asked the marker techie at my local field to show me how it's done. He said the trick is to have the hole lined up with the lip on the front, and to hold the braided line in the right spot. Once you've done it one or two times yourself, you've pretty much got it down pat.

If anyone has any other questions, please ask and i'll answer what I can.

Us OG'ers are always here to help.

Re: How-To: Install Air-Thru Dogleg stock

Did yours come with those black air fittings, did you add them yourself, or did you paint the original ones black?

Yeah they came like that straight out of the box.

My powers of deduction tell me that yours didn't.

Re: How-To: Install Air-Thru Dogleg stock

im wondering if you could mod the end cap and make it a RVA? But i could kinna see a problem with trying to take the stock off and then tuning the rva then re screwing the stock on.

Re: How-To: Install Air-Thru Dogleg stock

I did think about doing something like that. The only problem with this idea is that the hex bolt that secures the stock (where the RVA would go) is what stops it from moving around. The push pins also play a part in this but I don't think that just the push pins would keep the stock sturdy enough for my peace of mind. Also, the mounting plate for the stock has 2 "teeth" that the stock slots over. If you were to fit an RVA there, you would probably have to mill the mounting plate and probably remove part of those teeth to do so.

This RVA mod may have already been done somehow, but I haven't seen it.
