Problems getting A5 up to 285 fps

Well, I have a a5, my brother has a a5, and my dad has a a5. I m pretty good at figuring out what problems are with them, which is not often. My brothers and dads a5 both have problems getting up to 285 with both air and co2. About as fast as I can get them is 255. Powertubes seem fine, o-rings seem fine. Nothing seems broken or missing. My a5 shoots perfect, and theres did to until the last couple of weeks. The only thing I can think of is the valve. This is the first problem with them that realy has me stumped. I am going to call Tippmann on Monday but I though I would see if you guys have any ideas? Thanks.

Jag

Try swapping your springs, I have had that issue with one of my guns before and it was the spring.

The drive spring (the one between the endcap/stock and the rear bolt) is going to be the easiest to replace, try that first. If you've still got a problem, i'd try the valve spring next.

Re: Problems getting A5 up to 285 fps

A friend and I have both had this problem recently.

He replaced the drive spring with another stock spring and that fixed th issue. Our best guess is that over time it just lost it's ability to stay compressed, kinda like an old busted slinky.

I had the same velocity issue last weekend. We thought it would be the spring again, since I hadn't replaced mine in over 3 years. When we went to take out the back retainer pins, we noticed one had broken off. Once we replaced it, the velocity juped right back up where it should've been. Our guess there is that the butt plate was being pushed just slightly out of alignment which caused the spring to lose it's tension.

Maybe try these?

Re: Problems getting A5 up to 285 fps

Hmmm is the FPS fine after the first few shots and slowly goes down after that? If so you have a recharge problem ... Get a stabilizer! Or just shoot slower hehe

You're using oil and not grease for your lube, right?
