| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone Give Tippmann a call and they'll get you set up right. I hate dealing with them via email, but if you give them a call there customer service is great.

| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone #1: Contact Tippmann. They owe you a new receiver half. #2: Go buy some J-B Weld epoxy. You CAN fix your receiver permanently with it. Many times the bond that stuff forms is tougher than the metal it's used to fix. I've fixed lathe gears with it. |

| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone I broke just one of those when I dropped my A5... holds just fine with one, but 2 might be a problem... contact Tippmann, if that doesn't work out to be free, you can buy the half for $32 at Tippmannpro.com or $50 at Tippmannparts.com.

| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone I have a set of halves that that happened to - but I know a few precision/small parts machinists. I'm working on an idea using mine as the ginuea pig. If my idea is successful, I'll post up the procedure and specs. SO far on paper, it looks promising. I'm double-checking my measurements to make sure I planned this idea right. I'll keep you all posted on the progress..maybe should have it done after Christmas or right around New Year. --TAG-- |

| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone Sounds intriguing TAG... any hints to what you have in mind?

| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone i fixed a friend that had the same problem, he didnt have the money to buy a new reciever half, so i drilled the holes out, taped them and ran screws in there, so the screws actually, go in the cyclone where those dingy's went in, worked like a charm, and still is, i know, i know its kinda a redneck fix, but HEY it worked |

| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone OK, here's what I have so far: I stripped the paint off the receiver halves (I was gonna repaint 'em anyway...) to get this: ![]() And here is a closeup of what we're up against/dealing with: ![]() Here's a view from the side. As you can see, the REAR 'nub' is right over the channel for the foregrip nut: ![]() SO - that being the case, I would say IMHO to use the front nub spot ONLY. That, combined with the Cyclone retainer bolt coming in through the A5 should hold it enough. The nubs are basically there to hold the Cyclone in the proper level alignment. 2 out of 3 ought to be plenty: ![]() ![]() ![]() If you follow the receiver half around to the inside, you can see better how much 'meat' on the receiver half you have to work with if you use just the front nub spot: ![]() What I'm planning (and it seems so far that it will work) is to get a dowel pin with an OD that matches the 1st 1/4" ID of the Cyclone housing. Then, get my machinist buddy to drill the receiver hole about .1-.5 mm SMALLER than the dowel pin's OD. Then he's going to press-fit the dowel pin into the receiver. Being that the hole is smaller than the pin, the pin will be compressed into not being able to move because of compression of the aluminum in the receiver half. (BTW - this is a technique used by engine builders when they make high-rev/competition crankshafts - they use balance wieght slugs that are oversized for the hole they are in - that way, they can NOT get slung out by the high revs of the motor once they are pressed in) That's what I have on the idea so far. But so far, it seems very doable. It will be a permanent repair because the dowel pin will go all the way through the receiver and be made of tool hardened steel. More updates as they happen. When I'm done, I'll have pics/parts/specs posted so anyone can take the info and got to a machine/metal/repair shop and have thsi done. --TAG-- Last edited by TAG : 11-24-2008 at 07:28 PM. |

| Re: a-5 pins that hold cyclone wow! I didn't have to wait long for your idea! I like it! GL and I am sure there will be more pictures when you have finished.
