Cracked Receiver - Any Ideas?

I bought a used A5 for $99.00 and spent the night cleaning it and then started to set it up as a pistol.

Unfortunately I cracked it and am hoping someone has an idea on how to fix it. I know I could use JB weld to address it cosmetically but I still want to be able to mount a grip. I am thinking I may be outta luck unless any of you A5 wizards can help. Any ideas?

This is what it looked like before I maimed it.

Re: Cracked Receiver - Any Ideas?

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but what did you do to it? There's a whole chunk out of it.

Either use JBWeld or Bondo to fix it up...or maybe a welding shop could help (?)

Re: Cracked Receiver - Any Ideas?

you could search ebay for an A5 with crap internals and use those receiver halves.

He over-tightened the grip bolt.

You could possibly have a welding shop take a crack at it, but aluminum can be very tricky to weld, and not all types of aluminum can/should be welded. Another option would be to mill out the rest of that slot and epoxy in some aluminum channel (like this). If you know exactly where you want the grip to be, you could also epoxy in a nut. You have some options...

Re: Cracked Receiver - Any Ideas?

In theory at least... if you disassemble the gun you may be able to fill in the chunk w/ jb weld w/o actually filling in the whole section.

good luck with that though.

Re: Cracked Receiver - Any Ideas?

another idea; just put a rail over it. you then can still attach grips of all sorts.

Re: Cracked Receiver - Any Ideas?

hummm if he did tap and put in a rail how could he install the grip? unless he found a grip he liked better and since i guess your not running a stock you wont have to worry about a hose showing since there is none. most people that have that grip have an air through and keep that grip to cover up the hose. either way just a rail and no grip would look good.

Re: Cracked Receiver - Any Ideas?

Huh? It's broken where the stock front grip attaches...if you put in a sliding rail, it would be identical (in function) to the stock receiver.
