--NEVER GO ON TO THE FIELD WITOHOUT A BUDDY-CHECK.
Even if it's a total stranger, ALWAYS have someone check you for safety equipment (barrel cover/sock, goggs, towel to wipe a gogg hit so you can see...etc..) and things like loose tiedowns, kinks in a strap and such. These types of things can hurt you (or be thecause) just as much as "the usual suspects".
--A PAINTBALL DOESN'T CARE WHAT'S IN FRONT OF IT.
That could be a tree, a bunker...or you. And by the way, at 280 ft/sec (avg chrono limit for daytime play at most fields), that's 180 miles/hr (figure 60 mph = 90 ft/sec).
