Before I bought a thermal, I would take my lense out and wash it, then after it would dry, I would coat it in straight dawn soap inside and out and let it set over night. Don't try to clean your lens with water under a sink. You will get water in between the two lenses. I had to use some bottled water to clean off the spots that the tap water caused, then I used a hot glue gun that was barely warm to seal the lenses back up.

Always wipe the lens horizonally to clean it. The human eye can comprensate for horizonal lines much easier than it can for vertical or squiggly lines. Never wipe your lens in a circular motion because this causes the most glare when it starts to get scratched.
