Don't use kitchen towel or any other paper based cloth to clean your lenses (tissues, toilet paper, paper towels etc.) Since they're made with paper, they contain very small particles of wood which will eventually scratch your lenses. Instead, use a cloth based material such as microfiber or even an old cotton T-shirt.

Always wipe the lens horizonally to clean it. The human eye can comprensate for horizonal lines much easier than it can for vertical or squiggly lines. Never wipe your lens in a circular motion because this causes the most glare when it starts to get scratched.
