Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

Tools I use to service and oil my Palmer Pursuit Regulator:
3/16 allen wrench
Quarter
3/8 socket and extension
I lay out a towel as that protects my work surface and keeps screws and other items from rolling off and getting lost. I then set out the Palmer and begin to disassemble it.

First I unscrew the bottom screw with the 3/16 allen wrench.

I then unscrew the bottom plate using a quarter, it should come free really easily.

I then remove the bottom spacer and pressure spring.

Re: Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

You may have to hit the Palmer housing on something soft to get the plunger with the seal to fall loose.

Next I use the 3/8" socket and extension.

You'll feel the socket catch the brass nut inside the regulator body. Turn counter clockwise slowly about 6 turns.

Heres an arial view of the whole reg dissassembled. I visually inspect the entire body and assembly for any debris and use a soft towel with a little oil on it and wipe everything inside and out.

Next I inspect the seals and wipe down the brass pin and nut. I then use Tippmann pneumatic oil on everything.

I also inspect and wipe down the aluminum plunger and seal, then use Tippmann pneumatic oil making sure to coat the entire part.

I'm ready to start reassembling! Spring first and be carefull when tightening it back in. You don't need to put much pressure on the brass nut to get it to seal good. Again be carefull not to over tighten.

Next I put the plunger back in the regulator body, the long pin goes in first.

Re: Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

Next I put the spring back in, it will go in either way.

Next the plate that the allen screw presses against. I throw a couple of drops of oil in at this stage.

Next I screw the bottom plate in.

And using the coin in the slots on the bottom plate I tighten it back in. Be carefull!

Re: Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

Using the 3/16 allen wrench I screw the allen screw back in to about where it was prior to dissassembly.

All done.

Re: Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

Great write-up... I haven't broken mine down yet and may have to do it now with your guide as a companion.

One question though. You don't have any of your hoses connected during the breakdown. Can you leave your hose connected or no? It's not really a problem for me to take it off but I don't want to do the extra work if I don't need to.

Re: Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

No you don't need to disconnect the air lines to service the palmer. Infact because you take it down from the bottom, you could actually leave it on the marker.

Re: Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

How often do you need to service the reg? Is it the same procedure for all 3 styles?

Re: Servicing a Palmer Pursuit Regulator

Sorry I took so long!

Yes it is the same for all 3 styles.

I serviced mine after the first season and only once (the tutorial was made from it) after I noticed my velocity becoming inconsistant. It was an oring it turned out and after rebuilding my palmer my A-5 paintball gun is back to shooting +/- 2 fps again.
