Re: How Many Fills From A Scuba Tank

Are you looking to get HPA or CO2? If you have a scuba tank then your using HPA. Wich you would not under any circomstance try and fill a 20 Oz tank from. Thats asking to die. No if you are refering to a 50LB size bottle like used in welding and gas stations for the soda machines then youd be lucky to get around 30, That is if the tank is in proper working order. As for as turning the tank upside down thats risky biz. Find out if the tank has a siphon tube or not. If it does then keep it upright. If not then I would recomend getting a tilt rack that holds the tank tight when you invert it. You really don't want to see what happens to that tank if it where to get dropped on the valve. Hopefully this info helps.

Yipes! I'm with Spike - I hope it's HPA you are talking about, or it will be....

Hmmm...I remember the fire stations used to fill scuba tanks and the like, but with insurance regulations, I'm not sure they can fill air tanks anymore.

Anybody know if they still do that?

Re: How Many Fills From A Scuba Tank

I have a scuba tank which I use to refill my HPA tank at outlaw fields. A full scuba tank can fill my HPA to around 2800 PSI but goes lower with each fill. I agree with spike, you can usually get around 30 fills but they will get lower each time. In essence, all the scuba tank is doing is equalizing the pressure between the two tanks.
I love my scuba tank though, it allows for longer play at outlaw fields where air refills aren't available.
Most fire stations will not refill your tank anymore for insurance reasons. I take my scuba tank to a dive shop near my place to get it filled and doesn't cost much at all.

Re: How Many Fills From A Scuba Tank

A SCUBA tank only holds 3300 psi so you will never fill your hpa tank past that and each fill after that will be less than the previous. You can get several SCUBA tanks and form a cascade system. There is a chart out there that shows filling pressures per fill. I will try to find and post.

As far as fire stations filling them, they can but likely will not unless you know someone there that is willing to do it. Like stated, that could end up a liability issue. I would not fill one for any random person walking into my station.
