Shots are skipping

I'm kind of confused on this one. First let me state that I had to adjust my gun's settings. My gun was working fine before I played, did a small polish job on a rub mark from the hammer in the receivers and redid the front bolt area in the receivers as well.

When I got to the field, everyone was shooting hot, including myself. I had to turn my pressure down to 525 to shoot right but that cause my cyclone to stop working. After a break, I swapped out my spring for the green madman spring and was able to shoot at 650 psi. I had my e-grip setting set to Turbo (single shot and after x bps, transitions to reactive mode (pull=1shot, release=1shot)). I noticed when I was playing that when I went into reactive mode, not all of the balls were being shot. Now I've tested my cyclone to 20 bps with a chrono, which has bps capabilities, without a problem. When you first connect the battery to the APE board, it goes back to the stock settings. I know I'm not shooting quicker than 20 bps, so that makes me confused. In semi-auto, it shoots just fine. I doubt the cyclone is getting starved at 650 psi and I'm not getting chopped balls or experiencing overcycling.

Any ideas?

Re: Shots are skipping

How well do you oil your marker? Did you happen to read the analysis of a misfire thread?

Also, if you're firing real fast, then as your hopper gets empty you'll popcorn balls.

I oil the hammer and receiver pretty well. The front bolt, powertube (for the NDZ bolt's inner o-ring), and receiver both get oiled via oil on a paper towel and then get wiped with a clean paper towel. Basically just enough to make it shiny.

I just ran a search for it and couldn't find it. Do you have a link?

I would expect it if I were near empty but I was experiencing it even with a full hopper.

Here's a link:Analysis of a misfire

And my contribution to the thread which could be your problem:
Quote:
The only parts that need oil are parts with point to point friction, and they usually have an o-ring there. I hear of all sorts of people who oil their Receivers from front to back. that's just to much oil. The only places that need lube in the A-5 receivers are the o-rings, and then you can put a drop or two of oil in the ASA to oil the inside of the Valve, but that's all you need to do.

Re: Shots are skipping

It may occur during a full hopper, just because of the weight of the paintballs. I've had the cyclone not rotate at all because of a full hopper.

I assume you are firing at 20 bps cap with standard cyclone upgrades. Rtachet lubed? The piston seal lubed with oil, not lube?

Kind of sounds like a flow/recharge issue has occured. Fire your marker, but keep an eye on your gauge, see if it begins to change psi.

Is your cyclone fittings screws setup correctly?
Should look like this.
[(|)]=====[(|)]

As for oiling, I only oil my hammer and valve. I dont really worry about my front bolt. Mostly because I dont want oil on my paintballs.

Re: Shots are skipping

Just read the thread and it may apply to me but I doubt it only because its not a problem that went away. It was consistently a problem for most of the day. When I did play yesterday, I only oiled during reassembly and never put oil in the ASA. I didn't have droplets or ripples of oil anywhere on the gun. Just a film. I never once got a chopped ball or even a barrel break. Just blank shots with no ball coming out about every third shot while in reactive move.

Also, my hammer and sear are both new and barely even have wear marks.

I have all the TechT upgrades (QEPH, lightning rod, vortex, and squishy paddles) with Sleek grease on the lightning rod, cyclone housing, and vortex. Its well lubed in there. Besides, if it can handle 20bps full auto with no probs, then it should be able to handle 12 bps in reactive, right?

As far the psi on the gauge, it bounces around too much to tell during shooting but from start to finish, it never moved from the psi I set it at.

And the hopper capacity wasn't the issue. It didn't matter if it was full, medium, or empty. Happened all the time with it.

I was thinking it could be the banjo's, too. I don't think they are lined up perfectly like illustrated but there is a cavity around the pins so even if they aren't lined up, they are still getting some air. Probably just not enough to cycle properly though. I was thinking of upgrading to 1/8" banjos and tubing anyway.

Re: Shots are skipping

Did you add anything new to the marker when the problems started?

You said the marker fires fine in semi correct, just not well in turbo?

It just sounds like a flow issue. Pull off the banjo fitting and dry fire it. Make sure air is passing through the port. Inspect hoses and fittings. Pull out the screws and look for buildup.

Re: Shots are skipping

Nothing new was added.

Yes, fires fine in semi but not in turbo.

I'll take a look at the hoses and banjos when I get home. Also getting some 1/8" hose and banjos just in case. Been thinking of giving them a try anyway.

Re: Shots are skipping

Do you get any drop off in velocity when you are firing strings of paint in turbo?

Re: Shots are skipping

I never tested in turbo mode; only full auto. After I clean my gun, I'll test that out. I think it just gives the average velocity though. Not velocities for each shot. I'll have to double check on that.
