| FIELD/EVENT: Skirmish LOCATION: Jim Thorpe, PA TYPE: Woodsball, Speedball, Scenario FPO: Yes AIR: CO2, HPA FOOD: Yes TOILETS: Yes, normal and portable PRO SHOP/AIRSMITH: Yes Reviewer Rating (out of 10): 4 There probably aren't too many people out there who haven't heard of Skirmish, and there are a billion reviews on pbreview.com, so I won't re-invent the wheel here, just give you a few of personal pros and cons. The positive stuff first: The place is huge. Just massive. They do a fairly decent job of maintaining all that property, too. You'll see some comments on pbreview about the castles always being unavailable, or the fields being overgrown or swampy. The thing to remember is that Skirmish covers a VERY large area, and they handle a high volume of players every weekend. So, yeah, they are gonna be some maintenance issues. I like the guys in the shop. Yeah, they're busy. Yeah, sometimes they're a little brusque. So what? Show me an airsmith who deals with noobs and their mommies all day, and I'll show you a rude, bitter, beaten man. They're not nearly as nasty and dismissive, in my experience, as people seem to think. And I've never once paid to have a marker fixed there (aside from parts, of course.) Now...the bad stuff: they gouge on EVERYTHING - food, field fees, and paint. A $30 field fee is understandable (sort of) as they've gotta maintain all that acreage. As far as the paint, though, it's absolute artificial price inflation ($99 a case.) It's robbery, and there's no excuse for it. It's an excellent way to display the lack of respect they apparently feel for their customers. This is the primary reason I'll never return. So, in summation, if you've gotta go to one of their scenarios, you'll probably enjoy it. They run some excellent big games, most of their people are cool (I've run into a few refs who annoyed me, but I don't really worry about the opinions of someone who isn't old enough to shave), and in general, they try to give you a good time. But the prices are just the biggest middle finger, and I won't be going back. | |||

| Re: PA - Jim Thorpe - Skirmish Mods, how do you like the review format? I thought maybe we should have it somewhat standardized to make it easier to find a review based on location. Everybody, feel free to post your own experiences on this thread (Skirmish only, if you're talking about another field, start another thread.) Let me know if there are more bullet items we need to list at the beginning of the reviews. |

| Re: PA - Jim Thorpe - Skirmish your rating was too high yes they have alot of land ,but most of it smells like sewage. good example the pentagon. in avearge the price for paint is 100. but at big games they monopolize the price to 120.00 .they did it the last big game . 4000 players 700+ acres and like 100 refs . its a wipefest in there. the owners are rude ,and customer service is poor to say the least. i have been to alot of fields i mean alot and it baffels me as to why people still support that field. |

Yeah, their people are pretty lousy. I won't ever personally go back, but I don't want to outright crap on the place either. | |

| Re: PA - Jim Thorpe - Skirmish I have been to this Field twice and will not ever return to play. I have played at many fields and this is the unsafest place ever. There is no penalty for cheating or safety violation. For the 4100+ people at I.O.N. they had maybe 100 ref's and most where in the dead zone hanging out. They still allow plugs and they fall out and no one cares. I was on the field 45 minutes and say a ref taking his mask off as well as many players. I have heard of lots of injuries there, including lose of eyes and marbles being shot. Of the 8 team members that went, none will return to play there. $100 for paint is an outrage, D-Day has about the same acreage and only charges $65. Save your money and go to other games somewhere else. After all the bad post I have seen on alot of boards about Skirmish, I can see why the don't have a forum. They need to change there ad tag line to: Skirmish USA, the unsafest place on earth. These are my views and in no way reflect any of my team sponsors. Geos |

| Re: PA - Jim Thorpe - Skirmish i went to skirmish the 2 weeks ago, honestly it was pretty fun, we had a ref named john who was the coolest person i met. No problems with Skirmish aside the bathroom, dont use the bathroom there even tho i didnt use the bathroom there while my party was passing by it smelled like urine and we werent even that close to it. The SHop staff was pretty cool, we forgot to rent the harness for a buck and they brang it to us at the shop when we were suppost to rent it in the front by the entrance. Paint is was alot but it was 72 a case for us with that group discount, which wasnt too bad. I still have paint left over. The Gun rental which i used a 98 custom was decent, not the best. but lasted through the day. i will be going back with the same party we had in 2 weeks |
