No, the Magnus effect ( the lifting force on the ball, ) is dependent on the velocity squared and spin rate. Basically the faster it moves and the faster it spins means that the greater the lift force. The proper proportion of both is required to just balance out gravity, giving that floating effect. If the lift is too great gravity isn't just negated, it's completely overcome and the ball will actually gain altitude. The combined vector of lift and forward velocity points up and becomes the new forward velocity vector, then the cycle repeats. As the forward vector points more and more up it's fighting not just air resistance but also gravity. This slows it down greatly meaning the ball basically curves upward, stalls, then drops nearly straight down.

Re: Problem solved for Flatline vs Apex question

I actually tested this today. Very interesting results. I think it actually improved the accuracy of the full flatline effect for the apex.

The very first shot came out really weird and curved straight to the ground. Follow up shots were fired as if any other apex equipped barrel with a slight angle up with full flatline effect setting. Fired it a range of approximately 200 ft. with a straight, no wobble shot. When i've fired it before at the same range, the ball would fly to the left and right but end back up on target. With the flatline however, the shot when vertically and horizontally straight. I may have to play around with it like that on the field.

Re: Problem solved for Flatline vs Apex question

4 months later you finally got to test it....did you try to do the trick shots with it just to see what would happen?

I'm a bit lazy when it comes around to testing. But I only used the full flatline effect since that would be the obvious choice. I never used the tricks shots, ever. Just to try it out one time. I mostly got the apex for the flatlining effect.

Re: Problem solved for Flatline vs Apex question

Problem with a video is that you wont be able to see the paintball after a given distance. I'll see if I can rig something up though.
