Re: Flatline or APEX?

I have owned both, and here is my opinion.

Apex is easier to take on and off.

Apex allows adjustment.

Apex is cheaper.

Apex is made in China with a othe BT products. Call them, they will verify this fact. I think Tippmann....for now is US made.

Apex with no back spin dialed in does not shoot worth crap, and I tried to modify it to my CP barrel, and it made the CP shoot bad. There seems to be some sort of turblance that is created by the Apex when attached that causes the balls to not shoot as well when turned off. I called BT and they sent me a extra rubber gizmo and spring and it did the same thing.

The Apex, when set a low level 3 or 4 requires you point the gun a bit upwards to shoot straight.

The Apex is less paint picky.

The Flatline shoots....well flat. It acts more like a regualar barrel.

For that reason, I now shoot a Flatline. Buy good small bore paint, have a backup Cp, Lapco, smart parts, J&J, or what ever and rock it out.

I hated the apex and sold it. I did a write up about the Apex and having to point you gun up a bit to shoot it and even had a guy pm me on pbreview.com who said he hates his for the same reaon.

With all of that said, so many seem to like the Apex, just not me.

Re: Flatline or APEX?

So you hated the Apex, but your sig has a flatline for sale?
I am confused DaddyO?????

I've had both and have compared the Apex to an X-7 Flatline as well.
on a setting of 4, they have the same distance.
The Apex, in our testing seemed to be barely, and I mean barely more accurate.
If you have a red dot site configured dead on with a non Apex, non Flatline barrel you will notice that the
Flatline shoots higher than a non flatline. This is due to the fact that the end of the flatline is above the barrel adapter at the exit point
With an Apex, the shots will be about 2" lower at normal game distances. The balls seem to drop then rise with an Apex.
So they do shoot quite differently.
In my experience, the Apex handles crappy paint better. This is an advantage because most fields dont allow you to bring your own paint and dont offer you a choice of brands.

Due to the fact that the Apex screws into the barrel adapter, it makes for much easier barrel switching.
The Flatline has the barrel Adapter built in.
The X-7 Flatline is pretty much a set it and forget deal. It's not something you can change in the middle of a firefight.

From a Look standpoint, the Apex tip can be used with shrouds to make the marker look very realistic.
There are also some really nice Flatline shrouds.

On a good day with good paint, having one vs the other would make no difference on my performance.
The issue is in bad/cold weather or with crappy paint, the Flatline would hinder my performance, whereas the Apex wouldnt be any worse than any other barrel aside from the king of slinging crappy paint, the lapco bigshot.

So for flexibility and consistently with various paint and weather
I vote Apex

Re: Flatline or APEX?

Everything I said, I still believe. But I just discovered I play better with a good standard barrel. I just got to play with the flatline and lapco back to back and like the Lapco better. So it is time to liquidate the asset for something else

So not to open that whole can of worms or anything, I think back spin barrels just are not for me.

Re: Flatline or APEX?

haven't tried an apex although it looks interesting due to the fact that the flatline is picky on paint, even same shipment case to case, you can start the day at a big game with issues and end up with zero problems an hour into it. Overall though i like the flatline but am looking forward to trying an apex

Re: Flatline or APEX?

I Like flatline way better... The Apex shoots down then up, so you have to aim up if you put it on 4 or 5 clicks.
I like the flat trajectory, and I have never had problems with paint on my flatline, and I normally use whitebox, or heat.

I use an Apex tip with my freak kit, I fiddle with it about 30 minutes and now I can easily slide the tip over my all american front. It is a nice snug fit that doesn't move, but goes on or off in a couple seconds. Very handy.
