I suggest each player evaluate for themselves the colors and size of patterns in their most used playing environment. This is because even if you match the general colors, if you choose a pattern that is either too large, or too small, it does not work as effective as it could. Again, there is no real easy one answer for this question. But I find that multicam is good in a wide range of environments and would probably be my first choice if I could only have ONE camo pattern to choose from. However, on a slightly different note, I find that as long as the colors or camo pattern folks choose is close to what they need it will be fine given they watch their movements. More times than not it is your movement that attracts attention to yourself, not what you are wearing. The most matched camo to environment you can possibly have is useless if you don’t watch your movement discipline.

| Re: Best camo pattern. Different colors are best for different locations, but I have found that for night/urban environs, the U.S. urban digi works well as well as has a nice look to it. For the woods straight O.D., or a pattern like the german reversable spring/fall oak leaf pattern from WW2 is best, though the it is harder to find than the modern east german flecktarn (not as good). Tigerstipe is my team pattern but I skirt that requirement wherever possible due to my belief that the pattern is not very effective. In the snow the modern german snow pattern is great, it's white with dark green pine needle starbursts and works to break up your outline even where trees are not prevalent. There is something to be said for being recognizable on the field though. A team that regularly acts as shock troops may just want to wear something easy to recognize so they won't get shot by their own guys by moving too far ahead in a quick advance, even if it's just all black or a distinctive marking or jersey. Whe I was at blanding my base defenders had black jerseys with white sleeves, very good for ID at night so that I didn't shoot them all.

Hunting patterns are very passive and work very well if you are not moving, they work very well at close range and standing still that is why I use RealTree or Natural Gear when Bow hunting. Military patterns are aggressive and are made to work from longer distances and allow you to move. I'm lucky to have a wide range of environments in oregon If I hit the Coast it's lush/green and looks like Siagon I can head East and get High Desert, or play a few spots that are totally 3rd world urban. As crazy as it sounds I have found More and More that ACU is deacently effective in brush and very effective in High desert and Urban. You really have to have the material in your hands to see how the colors from the enviornment effect how it looks. Both Flecktarns- 5 color (woodland) and troppentarn (Desert Flecktarn) are some of my favorite patterns though. Some may disagree but after a lifetime of hunting, War games, and military I have found that as long as all patterns blend w/the enviornment mixing the patterns instead of one pattern for all your gear is more effective becouse it breaks up you sillhoute more. |
