The Passive camouflages are so becouse they take on the scheme of it's enviornment, like the hunting patterns that prints of trees, bushes, and leaves they are made to represent the exact place you are wishing to hide.

To lazy to type so I dug this up and took a snippet from:
http://www.splatmagazine.com/woodplay.htm

"Camouflage comes in two flavors: aggressive and passive. Aggressive camouflage is usually made up of seemingly random colors in a blobby or mottled fashion. It works by blending into the overall background, not necessarily one area. This includes the ever-popular woodland, tiger stripe, and others. Every country has a flavor of camo, like Auscam, Belgian Dots, British DPM, and Swiss Alpenflage. But even if the camouflage has nothing to do with the country of origin, each has a unique style.
Passive camos work by representing the wearer as the terrain they are in."

Re: Best camo pattern.

i like to use DCU's (Desert Combat Uniform). Since i got 3 suits and coveralls from my recent trip to Iraq. but i have taken it up a notch 1 pair i have dyed with a brown and another set i dyed with dark green using RIT dye. I find that they are a great inexpensive match to my current suroundings(sp) here in Utah. Keep in mind that by dyeing BDU's, DCU's, ect. It ruins the low UV signature that these tyypes of garments are designed with. Either way, no matter what your choice the tight Knit pattern work great against thorns and against rips. U will wear out a set of BDU's but unless u hang a pocket they are hard to rip.
Every once in a while i'll break out the woodland or the Real Tree leafy-wear depending on the temp and how many layers, if any, i want.

Re: Best camo pattern.

i prefer marpat in the northeast, because the rusty brown mimics very closely the color of dropped pine needles. otoh, acu gets applause for complete elimination of black.

Re: Best camo pattern.

I have tested all the above camo patterns as well as a couple of others. I have even tested a couple of different Ghillie suit patterns. I have found that for my area of the country, Southeast, the MARPAT works the best for an year around camo pattern. Though in the late fallen and winter the RealTree works really good. I think the MARPAT works the best because of how well it blends into the ground colors. Playing paintball you normally play close to the ground laying or crouched. I have not be able to test these patterns in the more tropical areas around Florida so I don't know how effective it would be there.

As far as Ghillie suits I've tried the Woodland and Mossy standard burlap strand suits as well as the Woodland CHAMELEON. For the late spring and summer time I would suggest the Woodland CHAMELEON. For rest the year I think the Mossy standard burlap strand Ghillie suits. The great thing about the Ghillie suits is that you can change the pattern to suit the time of year and environment that you are in. It gives you the 3D effect too. The down side it that it's HOT and you tend to have more problems with your mask fogging while wearing one. I hope this helps.

Play safe and have fun,

Re: Best camo pattern.

I use all Woodland in the summer and tri color dessert in the winter and fall months. In my woods there is no green at all in the winter and fall months of the year so tri color desert works very well for me. I have noticed that Tiger Strip works amazing well, I would even go as fare and say it works better they woodland camo. I think next summer I might buy a pair of ACU. The only reason I have not done so yet is because of money and my tactical vest is woodland also. I know I could buy another one in ACU but I really don't want to spend the cash on it.

Re: Best camo pattern.

I chose Desert because the 2 fields I play on are both deserty areas with no trees. Just dirt. Obviously if there were trees and greenery it would be different.

Re: Best camo pattern.

It really depends on the environment. I live in the south and the tiger stripe and MARPAT work well for our woods. I played with my MARPAT last weekend and when I was laying down just off the side of a trail one of the guys on the opposite team said he didnt see me even after I started shooting.
