Tippmann A5 Gravity Feed?

Hi, I was just wondering if you can put a regular gravity feed on the A5? Please don't ask why I want to do that, I just need an answer. Thanks, Alex.

Re: Tippmann A5 Gravity Feed?

The original hopper IS a gravity feed - just with a seriously big bottom hole - are you talking about a regular hopper (like one with a bottom hole 1 ball wide)?

I suppose you could, but you would have to make an adapter to cap off the cyclone and hold the hopper. It might also make a lot of in-cyclone breaks because the balls might not 'settle' into the cyclone as easily as with the A5 hopper.

The adapter would have to cap off the cyclone and have the neck for the hopper bottom. That would add a lot of height, and we haven't even put the hopper on it yet. Just some points to ponder.

As far as the hopper, I'm not sure how safe a powered hopper would be, pushing the balls in like it does. A gravity hopper might be on the slow side because of the balls having to settle into the cyclone.

As I said, it's technically possible, just take the factors into consideration and do it carefully...

Re: Tippmann A5 Gravity Feed?

Technically the original hopper is not gravity fed, because it has paddles to actually force feed the paint into the breech.

(Yes, I know the cyclone is not part of the hopper itself, but my argument still stands - a stock A5 is not gravity fed.)

What I suppose you could do if you wanted to gravity feed an A5 is get the qloader conversion kit, point the feedneck upwards and attach a regular gravity hopper. That should work, theoretically.

Although I am not sure why you would want to...the cyclone is awesome.

I think you have the wrong idea. I want to totally remove the cyclone, anything that has to do with it and put a regular feed/hopper. I'm not trying to keep the cyclone feed and attach a one ball hopper to it.

Get a BT, then. That's the only real difference.

Re: Tippmann A5 Gravity Feed?

The only main difference between the A5 and the 98 is the cyclone.

Re: Tippmann A5 Gravity Feed?

It can be done, but will require custom fabrication of a feedneck system, some jb weld to fill in the old cyclone breech and a hole drilled in the top for the new feedneck.

Re: Tippmann A5 Gravity Feed?

yea, probably take a 98 feedneck, and quite a bit of JB weld. Any reasons why? I am looking to make a "sniper" milsim marker, and I am leaning towards the 98 for a better look and a more realistic play (semi-auto, no need for a cyclone).

Re: Tippmann A5 Gravity Feed?

Good concept and all, Kind of defeats the purpose of having an A5 if you ask me... but I saw a guy do vertical feed on the a5 over on spec ops but it took him more time and money then it would to just go buy a gun made for that. He actually cut the middle of the receiver though, and made it like a space gun would be.
