Re: DIY GP-25 Launcher Is It Possible?

You could try some sort of spring-loaded thing, but many fields, as far as I know, do not allow homemade launchers for safety reasons.

What's wrong with just throwing grenades?

I did read your reply, and again thanks for the help, there just isn't any out there! I have tried everything except posting an add here and on the x7OG. If you see one for sale let me know please.

Re: DIY GP-25 Launcher Is It Possible?

If you do some research you could make one fairly cheap. You could make a coaxial piston design out of metal pipe or a burst disk design. I know of a burst disk cannon that you can make for $5.00.

Here's how to make the burst disk design.

It's only the size of a 150 round pod. I have not tested this like I want but it does work. I made this out of 2" schedule 40 pvc.

I want to make it slightly different then what is shown above

a quick connect
a co2 remote line with a slide check
1.25" pressure rated pvc
1.25" cap
fittings to plumb up to 2" coupling like shown in the picture.
foil tape for the burst disk (plastic bags are used in the picture to simulate the foil tape)

This will be powered by unregulated co2. Normally this is a HUGE NO NO! However in this case it's perfectly safe since the burst disk breaks at around 60 psi and it breaks almost instantly. The burst disk will break far before the pressure rating of the pvc or metal pipe. Just use a metal pipe and you will be fine. Forget about the pvc for safety sake. Besides most fields don't allow pvc chambers to begin with.

This won't be very effecient on air, but it should do the trick.

The only thing I don't know is how much pressure will be needed to propel a 4 oz grenade an acceptable distance. This will launch a nerf pretty good. You'll have to do the math. You might have to add extra layers of tape to increase the breaking point of the burst disk. So use metal.

One layer of tape holds about 60psi. I don't know about 2 or 3 layers. This is were unregulated co2 becomes a bad idea you don't want to create a bomb. 1 layer is perfectly fine. Anything more you do at your own risk.

I think a coaxial piston design would be a better way to go. You will get more power and it will be safe as well, but more expensive to make ($50.00).

Re: DIY GP-25 Launcher Is It Possible?

hmm

A good start would be to see how far it can chuck a big boy paint grenade. The big boy's shell is latex based so there won't be harmful frag flying everywhere during testing.

Any chance you could use a 12 gram cartridge?

I can get the right steel pipe. My dad used to put in entire sprinkler systems for skyscrapers, malls, hospitals, etc.

A 12gram is not enough power to launch a grenade.

Boy do I wish I was technically inclined! That idea looks good and seems like it would work. The Ideal would be a nade launcher that ran off the guns tank...whats another hose? Enough power to lobb a nade at least 50 feet, and too shoot nerf vortex's. It has to be easy to install and it has to be safe!

Yes it can with NASTY results, my first LAW was 12g powered, It could do alot with 1 12g cartridge, 40 paintballs, a tangerine, a paint grenade, nerfs, a mini grapefruit...lol

Really? Ok, I guess I'm wrong. I guess it's all in the way you build it.

Re: DIY GP-25 Launcher Is It Possible?

I thought so. It would also be more successful in limiting psi to levels that are more safe. Plus al you gotta do is whip out another 12 gram and pop it in almost like a magazine.

Shove a big boy in there and launch. I'm gonna get with a friend and see if we can cook something up that's safe and at about 40mm.

Now if only Drew were here... He operates an M4 w/ an M203 but he's in Iraq at the moment.
